*** Sony Xperia Z3 Compact ***

Hmm, camera shortcut/icon remembers which mode the camera was in (Manual). The side button launches it in Auto mode and plays an annoying sound :p

The more I use the software, the less I 'miss' CM or having root. Inevitably I will at some point, there's an unsecured kernal and recovery floating around now - so I'll keep an eye on developments...

Ok so i'm now convinced on the battery side. After having a couple of charges I'm now nearly through my second day of usual usage from a single charge and it's got 20% left. No effort to conserve battery. I'm very pleased - battery life is the one thing I've thought to be shocking from every smartphone i've had (well since oldschool windows ce)

Anybody had any indication Amazon are dispatching orders yet? I'm still stuck on "We've received your order but we haven't started preparing it for dispatch yet." :(

Estimate for delivery is still tomorrow so... confused.

This is in regards to the Z3 (but may still apply) as I got worried as it now says 'Estimated delivery 1-2 months' on the actual store page, where as like yourself in my orders its estimated tomorrow.

I went onto their support and I was assured it would still be delivered tomorrow and is likely to update around 9-9.30pm for whatever reason, perhaps because it is a pre order item.

Thanks for the info, sounds like it will be the same deal for the Z3c then.

Thanks. I am actually getting very twitchy about it even though I started a chat support session with Amazon and stated that my order has been stuck on Not Yet Dispatched. The support agent told me that it is still on target to be delivered tomorrow

Not too fussed about rooting this and the locked bootloader. Did it almost instantly on my SGS4 but that was to try and improve battery life and stop it from getting too hot by installing a custom kernel. Will miss a proper ad-blocker unless there is a decent one that doesn't require root.

2 days battery life is pretty good going these days. nice to see somebody have the bottle to go for practicality instead of shaving a couple of extra mm off the back

Got My Z3c delivered today, replacing my OPO. Initial thoughts are:

+ Love the size, perfect for a smartphone I think
+ It's a handsome thing! Got the (maybe boring) black but its a glassy bit of glass
+ Build quality - creak free, solid and flush flaps for the waterproofing
+ The screen. Was a bit sceptical about stepping down to a 720p display but I needn't have worried
+ Sound quality. I ordered the MDR-NC31EM noise cancelling set having loved them on the Z2 that I had for a week. Well worth the purchase in my opinion. For those not sold on them, make sure you're using the correct size buds, switch on the correct headset profile and enable both ClearAudio+ and dynamic normalisation. They sound superb for £25 in-ears and rival my Shure set (yes, really)
+ Double tap to wake. Got so used to it with my OPO I find I'm doing it with every other mobile I use so I'm glad this has it
+ Sony's skin is actually alright. I'm a stock Android guy usually but I have no big complaints about this one. I like the style of the quick toggles
+ Absolutely eats the iPhone 6 for breakfast in terms of footprint:screen size
+ Early camera results seem good so far, including low light. The two-stage shutter button works pretty well even if it is small
+ Performance - its stellar. Coming from an OPO which is regarded as one of the fastest devices on the market I wasn't expecting much. Its easily as quick in practical use

- It is a slippery little beggar. Extra care is needed when resting it on surfaces that have any sheer drops near!
- 16gb internal storage only. Got a big SD card in there but I still think there should be 32gb internal storage as a minimum as apps get bigger. Not a deal breaker of course

? Battery life remains to be seen but I'm expecting big things. It's had its first full charge and I'm hammering it now so we shall see what happens

Overall I'm very happy.

That smooth back is exactly what I experienced when I got my Nexus 4... literally any table with a slight incline turned it into a drop test...

How are you coping with dropping down the screen size? I know the N4 isn't a whole lot bigger but I somehow feel typing will be a bit harder.

Fine to be honest, I'm used to using an iPhone 5S also so dropping down from the OPO isn't that bad. The Sony keyboard is actually pretty good, I usually put the Google keyboard on as a matter of course but haven't yet.

I was the opposite - found it hard to adjust coming from the Nexus 4 but the google keyboard sorted it for me. I found the sony keyboard seemed a bit more iPhone like which has keys that are slightly too narrow for my thumbs! (though i'm sure the difference is minimal)

So anybody got any good case recommendations yet? I guess it's gonna be a short while until some decent quality ones turn up.

I've bought a cheap clear gel skin type effort for now just so i've got something to put it in and can still see the colour, should arrive tomorrow. The cover I had for the Nexus was pretty decent, can't remember what the make was but had a clear back and rubberised sides so helped grip. Hopefully be some similar ones available soon for the Sony

Got the phone on Friday, hoped the free roxfit case would have been sent with it, so am still waiting for Clove to supply it; have ordered a cheap gel case for the time being, hope to get tomorrow before I drop the phone!!!

Have been checking if Stilgut produce one for this phnoe yet but they haven't turned up in my searches yet.

Better battery life and signal strength than my GS4.
