**** Sony Xperia Z3 ****

I've got my order coming from Handtec between 10 and 11am this morning. Glad I'm working from home today :D

Time to setup the magnetic dock!

Mobilephonesdirect emailed me to phone them about my order, but the phones have been engaged for three hours now cant get through.

Cant even cancel the order online as no option to do so! Great.

You mean this one? ;)

Nice review bud.

In the box with the DK48 you only get the dock and a few inserts, with varying inner sizes for other Sony phones that also have magnetic charging ports. Only one of the inserts seemed to fit the Z3 perfectly.

One point to note about the magnetic charger inserts though is that they allow one to use the Sony official cases with the dock ;)

Ahh that makes sense now!

There a few typographical errors I've noticed after reading it through again (how many rereads I lost count lol) but I should get round to fixing those soon though they're fairly minor :p

Haven been asked to join the staff team there! :o

Just been playing with my Z3 - absolutely loving it so far, and much prefer the out of the box experience compared to my Samsung S4.

Also had a Case-Mate tough case delivered this morning and works pretty well with the Z3 and the magnetic dock. It has a cut out on the left hand side just the right size for allowing the phone to sit in the dock and charge without having to remove the case. The case-mate z3 screen protector isn't so nice however so I'll think I'll wait for some tempered glass screen protectors to come onto the market.

Just ordered mine for delivery tomorrow! Hope someone is in, I've got work :-(.

Gone for a full sized Z3 in Black, also ordered a magnetic dock from the rainforest, hope it's good mrk! Going to be paying £30 a month for unlimited texts + calls with 4GB data for the next 24 months !

Going be my first android as I'm moving from apple. I tired a 6, but it felt cheap and flimsy in my opinion. Going look into trying the Game Control Mount GCM10 too once it's out, or a cheaper 3rd party version if they become available. Ordered a cheap case too until the official one is released.

mrk - a couple of points from your review.

Camera modes - the shortcut (from the launcher/desktop) will remember camera modes. But the hardware button, or lockscreen shortcuts default to Superior Auto.

Google Camera doesn't seem to acknowledge the 2 stage shutter, so the Sony app is far better for the moment I think (I actually really like it, whereas previously I used the G app)

Sony allows 'themes' that do change elements of the System UI - such as this Andoid L inspired one :)

What white balance settings did you settle on? The settings are a transparent overlay, so not quite as effective as a true RGB adjustment/calibration.

That's a pretty decent deal, who is that with ?

Ah yes you're right about the shortcut launching of manual mode memory for the camera! Shame it can't be forced on the hardware button though :(

As for the theme, sadly that requires root, not something everyone will want to do especially since at present rooting the Z3 means unlocking the bootloader which means you will lose the DRM partition that controls the X-Reality Engine and other image processing stuff to do with the touchscreen.

White balance values I use are:

R: 169
G: 188
B: 47

Doesn't need root at all, Sony themes allow a certain amount of changes to System UI. I'm running the Android L beta 4 right now, no root. There's also a few on the Play store, but not all as nice looking.

PS - hope you don't think I was picking holes in the review, just thought you'd be interested :)

Ah no of course it's all good! People need to k we this kind of updated information as and when it's known so I'll definitely update with the camera and theme information thanks!

The guy in the thread mentioned needing root to install hence why I thought this worked only that way :p

I think root was just for 4.3.x software on older Xperia devices - they've obviously changed the way the theming engine works in 4.4.x (for the better!). There's not many about at the moment, probably because it's not that widely known and most people that want to theme will do it by Xposed/CM11 etc.

For the camera - other than larger picture size, have you noticed any benefit in shooting at 20/15mp instead of 8?
