Tax is out on new car starting tomorrow, just got in from work and the website is either broken or I've never noticed it being this slow...

Any other options or am I stuffed. (can't use phone service, at least not today)

Edit: Turns out I can't tax it anyway, only have the new keeper slip and that does balls for renewing tax.

Got the same issue at the moment. The option reads something along the lines of "no V11, but have the existing document V5C or new keeper slip V5C/2. Then, after clicking on that, am given one option "Existing keeper - V5C 11 digit number"

Anyway, I phoned the DVLA and upon getting through was advised that I can do it on the website with the new owner V5C/2 slip (12 digit number). When I told the guy that neither the website nor the phone service gives the option (this was only Monday), he advised doing it on the 1st before driving anywhere, as the new tax is effective immediately.

So the service is changing tomorrow to allow for the 12 digit number instead of this 11 digit one they go on about?

I'm having trouble even finding anything on google...

Have to use my car for work, no if's of but's So I'm looking at either getting a fine or loosing a days work... lucky me. Thanks DVLA

Pretty frustrating as I only got the car yesterday, I thought I could use the REF number on the slip to tax but turns out you can't unless it's a new 11 digit one, go figure. :(

Well, I think the guy thought it would have already changed, but in the absence of that, I think he went with "it'll be up on the 1st"

As long as you don't drive it, you have 14 days grace period apparently. Unfortunately, like yourself, I need it to get to work, so I'll be on the PC/phone bright and early swearing at things I'm sure.

Great start to the day eh, I'll be doing the exact same... what a bunch of *****.

Good luck with yours mate.

Pffft. I'd be driving it regardless. It's not like you wont be paying the tax for it anyway, and I'd be taking it all the way to court if necessary to say it was their cluster **** that caused any driving without tax.

Or you could go to the post office first thing in the morning when they open? My local branch is open at 7am

Well yes, but not really the point. What about the less mobile? Of which I am not one, but I might become one if I get in trouble for driving to work at 6:30am tomorrow morning.

Bloody DVLA.

How is it DVLA's fault you've left it so late? Isn't the reminder sent about 3 weeks before your tax expires?:p

If the constant referral to a new keeper slip didn't make it obvious enough;

He's only just bought it.

I wasn't referring to the OP. Countless people are attempting to tax their car last minute, including myself. The difference is I'm not whining like a bitch:p
