*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

ive used to many retries ive not got no ammo for the fusion rifle so cant touch the shanks, weak play by bungee to use shields only certain weapons can bypass

Always carry spare ammo!

I've just done the Devil again, 4th Chest/Robes now. So I'm just going to chalk it as RNG don't like me, rather than the system knows I'm trying to fob it :P

I've got a range of fusion rifles now, so I think I should be good for some Weekly or maybe even Raid!

for those that don't follow the Bungie forums, there is a bit of an uproar going on at the moment over a reddit thread which apparently had someone from inside Bungie commenting on why the game did not meet up to expectations (specifically with regards to lack of story line / cut content).

there is no way to confirm or deny whether this guy is 100% a bungie (or ex-bungie) employee, but the information he is posting generally makes sense, and due to a lack of communication from Bungie, seems the majority of people believe this guy.

will be interesting to see if Bungie makes an official response (more than the 2 lines already posted, which no-one believes at this stage), this thing has started blowing up pretty big so I think they kinda have to at this stage...

I thought this was confirmed ??

I can confirm that there were sudden and abrupt changes in the development of Destiny less than a year ago. There was tension between higher ups the entire time we were developing the title due to a lack of cohesion about the vision for the game. One side wanted this huge space epic, like an MMO Mass Effect and the other side was not convinced that would sell and wanted to pare things back to more "easily accessible" standards. They were afraid too much story elements and cut scenes would drive players off.

Then Joe left and everything just fell apart. By the time we were 7 months out to release, word came down that we were making massive revisions to the game's story. Huge portions of dialogue were excised and I think several recordings were redone to support the new narrative. Entire areas that would have been in the final game were removed, but some of the context wasn't, which explains weird reactions from NPCs and strange, unexplained motivations. We had a guy come in to write the grimoire cards who was given access to the original script with notations on what was cut and what needed to be revised in order to make this zombie of a game seem plausible.

All of the Last City factions had their storylines and dialogue cut, the Guardian's initial introduction to the Tower and the Last City was cut, and ALL the origins were homogenized down to the one originally used for Exo characters.

Most of what was cut was planned to be re-polished into DLC, but it's all there on the disc. Not all of it is live on the servers, but it's all there on the disc. Some last minute art assets needed to be remade, which is what you'll be downloading.

It's an embarrassing disaster and not the game I thought would be published.

not buying that at all

That's just all of the forum conspiracy theories bundled into one.

It doesn't fit that all of the content was there, all the script, everything, and somebody just came along and cut it all out to sell as DLC.

A more likely theory is that bungie were vastly behind in their work, the deadline slipping and slipping. Then at some point somebody had to draw the line, and say, we release on this day. What do we have to do with our current assets to get this out in less than a year.

Hence lots of it was cut and revised down to make a finished article out of all the bits and pieces of work they had going on. Huge unfinished areas of the game just got locked away to be finished at a later date. Huge sections of story dropped and the narrative re-done.

I'll eat my hat if the above turns out to be true (ie that it was all there and they just cut it out to make DLC)

Activision promised them huge bonuses and royalty percentages if the game was released on time and even more if it made profit etc after a certain time (this was in the millions and millions of dollars).

Can't help but think if activision hadn't put these stupid clauses in the contract the game would have been really different.

Bungie aren't gonna miss out on 10's of millions $ extra, who in their right mind would.

I posted the contract link a few pages back.

Have to admit this feels right to me. The story is a mess and when you see cut scenes that didn't make it into the game like meeting the Queen's Brother on Earth, and the rubbish dialogue elsewhere ("I could tell you about a great battle that happened centuries ago ..." but I won't, now go kill stuff"), something feels awry. It's a shame because the FPS fundamentals of Destiny are so good, if they'd have been able to create a Mass Effect type space opera around it at launch it probably would have been one of the best games ever. It's possible they can turn this around though, and hopefully they will.

Did the Weekly Heroic this morning, died a couple of times with the Tank - stupid impatience got the better of me, but was definitely manageable for a solo Sunslinger (Level 26) without too much fuss.

Tried the Nightfall and died pretty much before I manage to skip ahead of the room full of Cabal. Those hard shield minions don't flinch, how the heck do you get around them apart from grenades?!

Anyone up for doing it tonight (after Bake Off) on the 360, add me XBL: Dr Pharmacology

What time were you thinking of doing the Nightfall Davey pitch? I will be on at around 12 until 5 if you are still looking for a group.

I did the Weekly Heroic on my own last night too. The end boss took me a while but it wasn't too hard. The nightfall strike is another matter though. Like you I failed miserably, I'm definitely going to need some help with that, shame you're not on XO

Buh tried to do Shrine of Oryx but cant just do it

What class and level are you? I have solo'd that mission 3 times as a level 26 Warlock (Voidwalker) and almost got through last time without dying. I don't know how well it would worl for other classes as the special really helps. My class is legendary auto rifle, solar sniper, arc rocket launcher. In each section take down all the smaller enemies before taking on the 'boss' of the area. Most mini bosses have blue shield so rocket launch them, mine kills them in one shot but if not their shield will be down so switch to your primary and kill them. The Solar sniper is useful for the wizards you meet and the flying fallen bots (cant remember the name) as they have orange shields.

The two really hard bits I found first time round was the ogre and final boss. As soon as I trigger the ogre throw a grenade which will help damage all the other enemies that spawn. Once throwm retreat and stay out of sight of the ogre while picking everyone else off. For the ogre I use cover to get close then my Warlock super takes it down in one shot ( I don't know if a Hunters or Titans will as haven't tried). The other hard part is the final boss but keep your rockets back if you can, kill the ones praying and put your ghost in to the shrine and run back to where you came in. You can easily stay out of sight of the boss while killing everyon else, once dead fire a rocket at the boss. My launcher has 2 rounds so I can fire both but if you don't have time or miss then retreat back to the corridor you came from as all the small enemies respawn. Just repeat until you have killed the final boss then it is easy to destroy the shrine.

That easy :D If you are on ps4 happy to play it through with you.

I keep seeing twitter posts from the Cryptarch crowing about the patch being delayed, but can't see anything on Bungie's site about it, is it true?

Had a quick blast on the weekly strike this morning before work and realised very quickly that I would be late for work. Will have to push through it tonight :D
