Howdy.

Thought I would share my summer project, a garden makeover and installation of a conservatory.

We decided after getting mental quotes, to DIY it ourselfs.

Baby is on the way, so I have a matter of 4 weeks to get it all done and dusted!

Best bit, no pushy salesmen, builders who don't trun up and all ordered on-line with a few clicks! Oh yeah saved about £13,000 too :-)

I have been blogging it here http://conservatoryproject.blogspot.co.uk/ and it tells the story from the very beginning.

It is not finished yet, but the end is in sight, and will keep on posting until the end.

Hopefully it won't leak, as I have no one to blame but myself!

Got all the glazing in today - some of the beading was pain to fit, but nothing like a bit of persuasion with a rubber mallet!

I will update the blog when I can take pics in the light. Nights are drawing in quicker and quicker now!

Good work, hope the weather holds for you.:)

Ta.

When the base was delivered it gunned it down. When the Conservatory was delivered we have had the driest Spetember since records began!

I am nearly done with the sealant gun, so hopefully a little longer then it can rain all it wants!

Just ordered a mini heat pump to get us dry, heated and cooled :-)

Read the blog and I'm really impressed at your attention to detail. Great job.

Out of curiosity can I ask why you chose chipboard for the floor and not ply?

Thanks, I actually got told during the ordering process that "I over think things" - heh heh

I am using water resistant chipboard, because that is what comes in the package.

Think of this as one big Lego kit - you get everything including the silicone!

Now is the time to involve trades. Plastering and sparkies.

Hi,

It all comes via trade price conservatories. Speak to Mandy or Karl.

http://www.tradepriceconservatories.com/

Tell them Steve from Brighton sent ya - I have a book of M&S vouchers to redeem!

the total cost for a 4x3 with glass roof and base is £6800 - a massive saving over getting a conservatory company in.

They are very very helpful, and it has all been easy to do. Stuff is ordered and turns up with helpful delivery drivers. You have total control over the project from start to Finnish. You design it, they make it, you assemble it.

I got the climate control stuff today - now I can be cool ;-)

Wont you get some cold bridging through those steel floor joists? I guess it's still better than most conservatory concrete bases as they never seem to even bother with any insulation.

Looks good , much prefer glass to polycarb, will be a lot quieter and you can see the stars through it :).

Good work, I too have a conservatory under construction, hopefully this weekend I will have the glass in and the floors will be going down! Cannot wait to get it sorted though, the big mechano set that's been sat in my garden now resembles a room!

It is very close to the ground, there are polystyrene sheets between all the joists, then 18mm chipboard, then 5mm fibre matting, then a wood floor. Should be ok :-)

We just had the mother of all thunderstorms pass over Brighton!

Glad to say the conservatory has appeared to remain watertight :-)

The rest of Brighton, not so much.

Yup looks that way!

Built in searing heat with 0 rain. Last bit of glass goes in and it rains solid for days.

Lucky me!

I just really need to get out and sort out the guttering!
