Do they have plans to do this ? because I don't want to be buying duel GPU with all the problems they have with old and current games.

It's not possible currently, and there's always going to be poorly optimized games for the foreseeable future that means even £5000 PC's can't run it at 60fps solid.

I don't see this being a reality for a long time. It's barely possible at 1600p with the most demanding games and 1600p has been around for a long time. In games like Crysis 3 a gtx980 won't give a constant 60fps at 1080p never mind 4k.

ANSWER ONE:
To be honest It will probably never happen, because as the hardware gets better the in game graphics details get better therefore pushing the hardware more.

ANSWER TWO:
What do you mean, you can do now, just fire up something old enough and bobs your cousins second brother.

Once again a vague "Ultra Settings" question/statement. It means nothing unless you specify what game and include AA setting.

If you mean say a modern/current AAA title like BF4 with 4xAA then the answer for quite a while is going to be:

It could be possible with DirectX 12 and Skylake CPUs in 2015.

Games on 4K laptops with Skylake CPUs at IDF 2014 was surprised playable at 4K with High Settings but Intel did not disclosed performance numbers.

To play current and next generation DirectX 12 4K games at ultra settings and 60fps would need AMD R9 490X and Nvidia big Pascal GP100.

surely by the time the hardware can play, say BF4 at 4k with ultra settings, BF4 will be a very old game, so why not just use an old game now. ;)

This.

If you could, game makers would just have higher possible max settings for the few folks out there with multi-card setups / future users cause why not? Especially with the fashion for downsampling etc it's effectively now impossible to hit a 'max' setting as that is a requirement that can be made arbitrarily hard and there is no reason for developers to not make it too hard for a single card, while it still gives gains for some users.

This really does suck because I love playing games at ultra settings , most of us are more than willing to pay £600 for a top of the range card......

You would think with all the amazing tech we have these days and the fact the developers can produce these amazing games at these settings then it would make sense to offer us a card that can play them at ultra settings in 4K !

1920x1080 was a big leap once. Now it's a piece of cake to drive it with a single GPU.

But i see what you mean, by the time that comes with 3840x2160, we'll be sitting in front of a native 7680x4320 screen :p .

Yeah I wish they'd make a card that could do 120fps, well say 200fps so to avoid dips.
Also be nice if it ran so cool it didn't need any cooling on it so it was completely silent and if it didn't need any extra power cables and just used the 75W fro mthe PCI-e socket so I didn't have to have extra cables everywhere in my case.

+1

What the real question is when this subject comes up is

Does the user enjoy gaming or does he want to sit in front of a ultra sharp image watching the eye candy and ignoring the game.

No laughing please, but I would rather game on a crappy low rez screen than worry about the settings.

1080 on crysis 3 maxed is still not easy.

95% of my gaming needs to be at 120hz but I enjoyed certain titles more at high res. as well as elite is also enjoyed mark of the ninja more on a higher res display. These games have a real sense of scale and beauty that you can appreciate more if the resolution is higher.

The holy grail for me is a 120hz 4k Eizo colouredge.

To this dsr feature in the new gtx gpus suppose to make 1080 look like 4k is it not?

How? It would need to make every pixel into 4 pixels as far as I'm aware.

It's just a set feature they've put in for down sampling, it's a form of supersampling that renders the image to the scale of your native resolution. In all honesty although down sampling is a great method it's not half as good as having the true pixel count. You can tell quite easily with most panels that there is more being shown than what is being put out which results in loss of clarity. A 4k panel in comparison is day and night.
