**** Sony Xperia Z3 ****

The Note II has a Wolfson DAC so I'm not surprised you found the Moto to be poor!

I assume the Note 3 has something similar so if the Z3 is even better I'm going to be over the moon :D

OT: I ordered a Z3 from Mobile Phones Direct early enough for next day delivery but got a fackin email after they closed asking me to call them to answer some security questions :(

The Note 3 doesn't have a Wolfson DAC IIRC but Samsung's own variant which actually is very good! It powered my AKG Q701 headphones with decent volume  - Strangely the Z3 doesn't bring the Q701s to the same volume levels as the Note 3 did so it seems all the tuning Sony has done is geared toward easier to drive headphones.

Btw I have only enabled S-Force surround in sound options for the front speakers. All other processing is disabled as I use only the bass and treble tone controls in PowerAmp and let PA's engine handle the rest.

Got my official sony windowed case on order. Look forward to using it with the official dock which arrived today ;)

@mrk: now you've had yours a few days how are you finding the screen in comparison to the Note 3 for general use? Reduction in screen real estate and inferior blacks causing any feelings of missing out or is the transition painless? Still can't make my mind up !

Blacks are always going to be better on AMOLED but not once have I thought to myself "I miss the Note 3"!

The extra .5" screen size was nice but the Z3 screen is sharper I'm finding and in the hand the whole handset is nicer to use as well because of the slimmer profile and curvier edges.

The camera I'm preferring too in many ways although the low light mode on the Samsung was better implemented I'd say.

AF is brilliant:

The Note 3 captures stereo sound in the videocamera, the Z3 has 2 mics so is capable but it seems to capture mono only.

Had the exact same problem, ordered white Z3 from them Monday evening, as it quoted "Get it for Wednesday October 1st" and said "In Stock" underneath the price. Placed order ok, Tuesday morning I got the email asking for security checks before order could go through. Called them and answered security questions. Was told that I would receive an email once dispatched. Not had that email yet!

Logged into my account and it's still on "awaiting arrival of stock", so they obviously caught short with the popularity of it.

Case and screen protector arrived today though, just to rub salt in the wound :o

Yeah I actually wanted a white one but when I put it in the basket it said it'll take upto 9 days for delivery so I went for the black. The whole security check thing is kind of strange as it's not as if I'm buying it on finance

Just hoping I can get it on Friday.

My guess it is to stop people using stolen credit cards as phones are easy to shift on. They only allow to ship to card holders address too.

Damn 9 days? Never said that when I ordered it, was going to chase them up tomorrow for a date as well.

I imagine you'll get it Friday if it's in stock. :)

I won't be rooting the Z3 any time soon. Banking from my phone, I forgot how convenient that is. I will wait for the AOSP release by Sony and install that though I think!

To be honest, the only thing I'm really missing root for at the moment is an adblocker. The rest is just me wanting to tinker with settings etc.

Quite happy to root this at some point, provided there's no issues with losing Sony apps etc - one of the only times where the OEM software is actually useful and pleasant looking IMO...(still think the dialer is rubbish and ugly though :p)

Just posted this in the Z3c thread, but may be some use to folk here:

Found a way to get rid of the Sony What's new app which shows alongside Google from the bottom swipe menu (for Now):

With USB Debugging enabled and plugged in:
Code:
adb shell
pm block com.sonymobile.advancedwidget.entrance
reboot

Taken from here.

Rumours coming out about the Z Ultra replacement, the Z3X. It looks like a beast (810, 4GB, 1440p) but it's a 6.2" phone which is a touch too big I think. If Sony release that in March/April, the Note 4 should be worried.

Just got my z3

Is there a specific app I should use to transfer all old text messages to new phone? Also are whatsapp messages saved online so I don't need to transfer them?

I used sony own xperia transfer app, worked fine
brought across everything I wanted..you just tick or untick what you want or dont want to transfer across

EE rang....out of stock.....
Looked on three site.....better deal....cheaper....in stock.....but it means the pain of getting a PUK code.....

Anyone know where i could get a Z3 on voda unlocked now or will i have to wait a while?

Can't seem to find much info on its unlocking.

Thanks :)
