I didn't really understand why they were referring to a "slope" on the bridge - it looked pretty flat to me. However I've just read that they were doing a racism and referring to the Thai worker on the bridge at the time. I'm literally cringing thinking about it now. It's like that Mexico joke that Hammond did a few series ago, not funny and totally unnecessary. I thought Burma was one of the better specials but that's actually ruined it for me.
Do you really think even Top Gear would make the point of broadcasting an intentional insulting racist slur on peak time TV on purpose?

I cried laughing watching this special

You just have to accept its not your taste and stop watching it. Its just not your sense of humour, the same way not everybody was a fan of "The League of Gentleman" Some found it hilarious , others didn't. I loved the fast show back in the day, but others thought it was horrible and boring.

What you are saying is definitely correct. Its clearly no longer my cup of tea.

It's weird though because a few series back I was really a big fan. My tastes haven't changed elsewhere. It's just Top Gear seems very different and seems to try too hard.

Making references to "Black c..ks" and wanting a "stiff one" does show that their writers do like to push it a little for an early evening time slot.

Its really not. They were trying "too hard" with the "Good News !" Dacia sandero jokes a few series back. Top gear is largely a sketch show as they are essentially characters, just as Harry Enfield and Paul whitehouse create them. Only difference is they haven't come up with any new ones. the characters are still the same, and you've got tired of them. Just stop watching it and move on. Likewise the joke about people crashing into each other deliberately while saying oopss .. that joke has been running since they re-invented the current format into a comedy sketch show that losely features some cars.

Try 5th gear, they had a road test of the Lexus IS hybrid this week and were deadily serious about it comparing it to the BMW 3 series.

haha! yeah talking about that whiskey and wanting a "stiff one" and "get that down your neck" or what ever jezza said :p I was laughing quite hard. ahhh sooo childish :D

think it's just they are playing a lot more on the blatantly obvious where as before it may have been more subtle and witty?

just getting soft and sappy in their older age? ;)

there was that one bit where they were talking about the party and I think Hammond was on about saying how it was good that them three would be representing as they all look different. then jezza and may poked fun about his logic calling him a racist for implying that they would think westerners all look the same because he would think all of them would look the same xD they left that in but that more of a generalisation that a lot of people assume.... rather than a poor taste racist joke :p

There should be a poll on how good/bad the show is

Ive not heard enough rave reviews about how the motoring content is so great, so ill stick with the youtube channels for now

As someone who knows next to nothing about the Falklands war, whats the problem with the numberplate? Is it just the FKL at the end which could be interpreted as short for Falklands

^^ the date is also in the number plate, 1982.. H982 FKL

im a big fan of Clarkson, but i dont think it was wise to rub salt into this wound with the argies, this might end up being one step too far even for him :/

Apparently it was a coincidence... Improbable, but not impossible, I suppose.

Clarksons no fool mate, although maybe he is if he thought he could drive round Argentina with that plate, maybe he thought it would make a good joke for the keen of eye in the upcomming series, only for it to be noticed by the argies straight away lol

That's no coincidence imo, bit silly of him to do that after his previous. :D

Looking forward to the new series. :)

That's basically it, simply a coincidence that the morons in Argentina read too much into, first the fascists invade the Falklands now they ruin a top gear episode, I hope this damages their tourism industry (if they have one?).

If they had fitted a private plate to the car it would be something to take offence too but as it's the correct plate for the car...

*EDIT*

Lol, they cars still on the MID database, I wonder if the insurance covers being torched in south America by angry argies :P

Whilst I wouldn't put it past Clarkson to have deliberately found cars with numberplates, the following logic is staggeringly stupid

Local councillor Juan Manuel Romano claimed the digits 269 on the number plate of the Ford Mustang Mustang Richard Hammond was driving were close to the 255 Britons killed during the 1982 war.

He also said the numbers 646 on James May’s Lotus could be taken as a reference to the 649 Argentinian casualties.

How the hell does 646 = 649 and 269 = 255 ??

Surely if you are angry enough you'll find any stat close to any number you want..

Normally it's Clarkson being the offensive small minded idiot, but it seems Argentina are full of 'em..

It's absolutely bonkers and I hope the cars don't get needlessly destroyed.

I've been on/off looking at Esprits for the past 8 months or so and I saw the red Esprit when it came up for sale - shock horror with that same numberplate so it didn't have that numberplate put on it just to wind up the Argentinians who add 3 to every number they see.

On a side note, I thought May was in the Porsche and Clarkson in the Esprit... wonder if they've purposely got Clarkson down as driving the 'FKL' plated car in the story.
