Nexus 6 Rumours and Speculation

tbh while im loving my N5, my eye keeps being turned to Sony Z3, it looks stunning, and getting very good reviews.

Sony Z3 does look superb and is definitely on my maybe list. Still waiting for the N6 release though to see what it offers.

Yep thats what im doing aswell, but so far the "rumours" of the N6 are putting me off. (in terms of size)

My N4 is now borked beyond belief. Stupid softkeys, stupid Xposed framework :(

so you're fiddling around with the software using hacks and you blame said hacks for another issue? bravo :p

protip: stop xposed from being initiated during boot by hitting a software key repeatedly until it does a longish vibrate. voila, xposed not loaded.

Besides the size issue the design also looks boring. I guess its hard to tell with that case on but just looks like a stretched version of the 4. Nothing wrong with that I guess, but would be nice to have something a bit different.

I'd play with a Z3 in a shop and then see what you think. You'll be back to purring as your stroke your N5 in no time.

Yes it's because I've had Xposed installed. It was working fine until this morning then the softkeys kept being very very slow to respond.

I checked the Gravitybox settings for navigation keys and that was all fine. Then I checked Android L Navigation settings and I think I changed from what it was on to another option. After the reboot no soft key has worked since.

I have installed new roms, flashed back to original stock, flashed back to PA and stuck a custom kernel on but the soft keys never work. Then put xposed and gravitybox and android l navigation back on and changed settings but the softkeys are still deaded.

If it's software though, how has it not reverted back after I changed it. Surely the settings would go back to default :(

I'm really looking forward to the N6, I love my N5 and I love Nexus in general!

I love to build roms from source too, currently i'm running liquid smooth, along with the code blue kernel. With a UV of -50mv across the board. :D

have you tried flashing everything (i mean the partition tables) via fastboot and totally reverting back to stock? if that doesn't work, then indeed you've probably got a knackered phone.

Gone back to absolute basics, soft keys just aren't working. I've installed 3 or 4 different apps that say they resemble the soft keys but no response so it's kind of hard coded in the phone that the keys don't work.

I give up. I've ordered a Moto G v2 to come tomorrow so I at least have a phone that works.

I cannot think of anyway of fixing this now.

Does PIE work on PA?

I liked the design of the Nexus 5 and was contemplating upgrading my iPhone 4s to the next Google Nexus phone. However I'm kind of concerned by the rumours of the screen size. 5.9" is a ridiculous screen size for a phone IMO. Hopefully Google will bring out a smaller version alongside it as I know a lot of people wont be interested in a handset that large.

Also, has anyone heard of any rumours whether other manufacturers will be releasing phones with the native non-customised version of Android? I quite like native android but can't stand the Sony/Samsung customised and re-skinned versions of the OS!

Sony will be releasing stock Android for some phones. They're also trying to make the changes to their customised build more subtle, so the OS resembles stock Android as much as possible (but with enhancements to the OS). I've been using the Z3 Compact for a week now and can certainly say it's not a massive deviation from stock Android on my Nexus 4. Motorola aside, Sony probably already have the closest experience to stock. Given the choice, I'd keep their build - some of the extras/changes are really useful. The only eyesore I've noticed is the 'Small Apps' UI in the task switcher. That needs some improvement (or an on/off toggle in settings).
