Have been thinking about a city break somewhere in Europe for 3 - 4 days just before Christmas. Somewhere with good food and a lively atmosphere.

Have been contemplating Copenhagen, but was wondering if there are any other cities to add to the shortlist?

Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam are off the list, as we've been there recently.

Bruges? Beautiful place. Must be even better near Christmas. Easy to drive to, if you're so inclined.

Have to research where you want to go to find the best night life though, we just pootled around restaurants and bars.

Loved it. Will be going back :)

Prague is awesome around Christmas time.

Probably get a return flight for £130 each then just book an apartment on housetrip. Sorted.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will be spending Christmas in Krakow, so will research the options mentioned. Prague/Vienna was on the list, but hadn't considered Düsseldorf, or Blackpool for that matter!

I am a big fan of the German culture, especially their Weinachtsmarkts! Went DD a few summers ago, stayed in the altstadt and it was beautiful. All cobbled streets with bars and restaurants lining the streets. Want to get back at some point!

If Vienna is already on your list, I'd like to give you a big push in that direction. Spent a few christmases there, and loved it. Ice skating in the square in front of the rathaus, lights and markets everywhere, plenty of gluhwein and a general magical feel.

Bruges would be lovely, though an Alpine town/country would be worth it too, guaranteed snow and lovely culture for Christmas too.

Have been to Krakow for the past 2 Decembers, awesome place, realllllly cheap, have a nice xmas market on if you check the dates, short (and very cheap flight) some of the restaurants / bars around the main square are just brilliant

Should have completely read the thread haha...where abouts are you staying? :)
