Arnis Zalkalns found dead

Bit of a tricky one, but with out more info its hard to tell, my gut feeling is after it happened, she was missing 5 weeks was it before she was found? And he wasn't seen since, he could have done what ever and been led there for just as long.

Woodland, not so sure, not many people about I guess? There are no details yet as to the cause of death, but I guess that will be released in due course

Feel sorry for the family having to go through such trauma :(

Poor girl

He murdered Alice, hid her body, then hung himself and took the cowardly way out so he'd never have to face either justice or Alice's parents for what he did.

Didn't have to look hard to find a case where someone got a conviction for murder and was sentenced to a 17 year minimum tariff.

So to counter the claim that he wouldn't have received a maximum sentence of 15 years, you come back with a case of someone who hadn't been convicted of murder before, and received a minimum sentence of 17 years.

Try looking a bit harder...

15 years was just a guess. The point was that it's extremely unlikely that he would have been in prison for the rest of his life.

I highly doubt that, and that link you showed was a different scenario. Murdering your partner in a fit of rage when drunk is totally different to abducting and murdering a school girl in broad daylight. The first guy has issues and needs locking up for a long long time the second one is clearly a threat to society and should never be allowed to walk the streets ever.

My theory:

He was a member of a gang in his home country, whether by force or willingly. He was used to abduct this girl for them, and when it all went wrong, he killed her. The people who he was doing this for then killed him before he could run his mouth.

A bit exotic but certainly feasible.

They might have even killed his wife and framed him.

Early to make assumptions but I would hazard a guess that he has killed Alice, then in a moment of clarity, was overcome with guilt, realised that he may not be able to control himself to stop him doing it again, and killed himself.

much more likely he realsied he'd be caught and didn't want to face it than "protecting others"

That's a bit of a stretch and implausible. He was from Eastern Europe and if he was part of some gang that was in the business of abducting young girls then surely they would go about it in Eastern Europe where the Policing is not as professional as it is here in the UK.

Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.

Which is why it's only a theory. Alice might have been kidnapped for a ransom, under the impression that she might be worth more as she's British. She might have been kidnapped for a weird fetish gang, there's an endless list of possibilities.

Of course the odds of these being true are close to nothing, but don't rule them out.

You'd be amazed what men will do to protect their family. Even destroy another family.

In that case wouldn't they have less chance of getting caught if they abducted a Tourist.

Obviously there's endless possibilities however implausible.
