My MX5 MK2.5 has a slow puncture on the front passenger side and so I need a new tyre. Thinking about the Falken Ziex ZE-914 Ecorun. I trust that it's OK? And, is it OK to just put one new tyre on? The other side has pretty good tread left.

The tyre is £75 fitted so if there are any recommendations for around that price I'm happy you consider.

Cheers!

If the other side is fairly new put the same tyre on.

Unless they're terrible, then replace both.

Falken 912's were terrible tyres, doubt the newer version has significantly changed

I've got them on my MR2. They're not bad, but not fantastic: miles better than linglongs, arrowspeeds etc, but noticeably poorer than premium tyres in the wet.

I'd imagine he's running 205-45-16s. I definitely wouldn't want to just replace 1 x tyre and have a mismatched pair on an axle. What tyres are fitted on the rears? May be worth matching the fronts with those......depending on what they are.

Aye, they are 205-45-16. I only recently bought the car and didn't even look at the tyres bar tread levels. But yea, they are seemingly awful. I think I'll replace the two fronts with the Falken, and match the rear with the awful tyres. I can't afford three hundred quid for four tyres at the moment.

Pay a tenner more per tyre and buy Hankook evo's they will be likely to be significantly better for the small uplift. Or if things are really that right then kumho ku39 are a tyre I'd go to before the Falken.

If the Mazda doesn't have a staggered setup I'd also put the new ones on the back

Another option would be to change to 15" wheels and tyres.
For example: 4 x uniroyal rainsport 3s in 195-50-15 would set up back £140+ fitting http://www.camskill.co.uk/m53b0s99p...Eff_:_E_Wet_Grip:_A_NoiseClass:_2_Noise:_71dB
Combine those with a set of used 15s like these

Total outlay would be around £220, but you're left with a set of 16s you can sell to recoup a good chunk of that back. 15s are arguably the best size wheels for an MX5, and with them come much cheaper tyres than 16s.

I've got the 914 on the rear of our Honda Accord. It's never been driven in anger as it's a child and dog wagon that's usually driven by my wife but they stop fine in the wet which is the only real task they're likely to be required to do :p

I'll need two for the front soon.

got 914s and 912s (I think) on my Civic VTI and find them superb - lots of grip, as good as any other very premium tyre I've had on it (the 912s were the first lower price tyres I'd tried on the car) - bought them partially as for my tyre size 195,55,15, they were quite a saving compared to other similar tyres

my Wifes Type-S also has 914s on, but for her car the EVO 12s seem to be not much more so will give those a try shortly.

Have to say ive been impressed with Uniroyal Rainsport 3 on my misses Fabia. I know its no sport car but has made a nice difference to the way it handles.

However I do need to investigate why one is making the car pull...

Thanks for all the help. I think I'm going to get two Hankook K120 Ventus V12 Evo2. Going to put them on the rear I think. And have the two crappy scudos on the front. Seem like a good idea?
