My head hurts reading the OP.
It could just be down to game optimization and your hardware.
Dont forget we all use different hardware, my PC is dodgey when it comes to USB stuff.
All our PC`s are our own creations as such and each has its quirks!![]()
I use to have stuttering and pausing in games with one of my pc's and it drove me mad also. I think its due to a bit of hardware conflicting, not getting along with each other and thats why you get pauses, because your hardware is having a boxing match with each other..lol
It's not, it's the games. I could write a book on this believe me. 'Stuttering' in games and its elimination is something of an obsession of mine and has been for years, across several different builds.
It's never just a hardware issue in my experience.
Just google any of the games the OP lists in his opening post along with the words 'stutter' 'hitching' or 'judder' and you will find reams and reams of pages of people with the same problems.
Depending on the game, Some of these problems can be fixed or at least aleviated with user ini tweaks, turning off SLI or Xfire completely, Disabling hyperthreading, leave hyperthreading on but unpark your cores, to name just a few. But sometimes you can't do anything and it's just the game and the way the Engine works.
I cringe when I see a new game release that is STILL using the Unreal 3 engine, as 4 out of 5 unreal engine games have terrible stutter problems out of the box that requires either a patch, and/or user ini tweaks to the relevant 'xxxxengine.ini' file. This usually involves adjusting 'smoothframerate' value to true or false, and changing the max framerate variable to match the refresh rate of your monitor, etc etc etc to name a few.
UE3 engine games also often have terrible texture streaming issues. Running from an SSD can sometimes help a little with this, but not much really. With games that have issues I have tried running from an SSD and a normal HD and there is never any difference with regards to stutter/ micro judder. (I really hope the UE4 engine is a lot better).
I've also bought a ROG Swift monitor with Gsync to help, which it does for some games, but even Gsync can add an extra layer of stutter issues that aren't present with normal vsync, that requires its own special investigation!
The problem is so endemic in many new titles, I've actually started keeping my game shortcuts in folders along with a personal readme file I've written for stutter fixes! Sad but true.

It's not just UE3 games either with the problem, for example, THIS IS MY FAR CRY 3 FIX.
1. Firstly, DISABLE CPU Hyperthreading. This is THE KEY first fix.
2. Second, in the Nvidia control panel set/ change the following for the farcry 3 specific game profile:
- Antialiasing - mode: Enhance the application setting
- Antialiasing - setting: SLI 16x CSAA
- Antialiasing - transparency: SLI 16x (supersample)
3. Third - turn off MSAA in game. Can max everthing else.
4. Vsync on in game.
It sounds a bizarre solution, but it genuinely works and runs so much smoother! This isn't my personal discovery by the way, I found this deep in a forum somewhere.
You know what, I think a stickied thread for stuttering games and possible fixes should be set up too. This one?
As I said in your other thread. It's simply the games themselves. The 5 or 6 you mention are renowned for occasional micro stutter and judder, which can sometimes be fixed with ini tweaks or other workarounds. But not always.
You have other games that are fine, so there you go. If your system was wrong, they'd all be stuttering.
There's nowt you can do about it in most cases.
could the game be trying to load something up on the hdd causing it to have to turn the hdd on to access it?
i used to have that problem![]()
Yea, i'm really sorry i made multiple threads but i wanted to just make sure it wasnt my pc, i just got a bad string of games come up that all had this problem and i just wanted to definately make sure it wasnt my end! My apologize for the annoyance, but i'm glad its just game problems (Well, i'm not glad, it promotes bad porting if people poke up with it, but not much we can do really ey?)
Hey no need to apologise to me bud
I wish there were more threads like this, I really do. As I mentioned, getting rid of stuttering in games is like an obsession for me
I also really do think we should have a sticky for troublesome stutter/ judder in specific games and post user solutions. How do we do this anyone?
Do you have steam atall? id like to add you incase i can help with any of your problems
I do bud - username is wunkley on there too. I don't go in much for the social side of steam to be honest, just use it for games! How does it work?
