on that note, how do the 290s perform in crossfire? pretty good?
The theory behind what he says is true but it relies on the assumption both cards aren't 99% in usage. If they are then they will be hotter of course.
Happy I sold my 290s before this news came about.
Must admit i'm over the moon with my MSI 970
290 for £199 is an attractive proposition.
2nd hand 290s are a bargain IMO.
Even if I was to say run Vsync at 60hz this would drop the usage down from 100% and even lower temps a lot. You would still have the top GPU much hotter than running a single card.
Its just how it is, bottom GPU pushes how air into the case top GPU feeds from it. = higher temps even if you wasn't 100% load
Its how you tackle the issue with either more fans, better case, better PCI spacing etc
Its just a fact more Cards = more heat.
Even im tempted for some stopgap quadfire fun with those.
But that wasn't the point he was making...

QuadFire sure is a lot of fun. It's not for the faint hearted though, as I'm sure you're aware.![]()
Welll i seem to have had the best of luck with it over the years![]()
You be completely wrong, You will always get higher temps with Multi - GPUs
Here me running around TR for bit - Maxed out and no frame rate cap, If I was to use say Vsync I would get much lower temps in all my games because this would stop the GPU's working over time to push out more Frames.
Nice one shankly contradicting your self all in one post, way to put an argument across![]()
With my non ref cards I get the following.
1 card, 65c max
2 cards, no fps limit, 79/62c max
2 cards, 100 fps limit, 72/57c max
Temps will be much lower again say if I use a lower fps limit or use vsync.
