Iso Acoustics L8R Monitor Stands?

I'm currently in the process of preparing to get a pair of bookshelf speakers to use on my desk. But obviously with the speakers directly on the desk, clearly it wouldn't be the optimal way of listening considering the height...so naturally I start looking around for a pair of stands that I can put on my desk to raise the height of the speakers.

While I was looking around, I came across the Iso Acoustics L8R Monitor Stands. They certainly ain't cheap, but they claim to enhance the audio quality and better than speakers sitting directly on the a surface or conventional steel stands.

I checked out the demo video on their website:
http://www.isoacoustics.com/design.php

Between the steelstand and the Iso Acoustics stand, the steelstand sound more confined, while the Iso Acoustics stand sound much better in clarity and open up more in terms of space.

So I was wondering, if these Iso Acoustics stands really all they bang up to be and worth the money, or are they just hyping it up in terms of the difference it makes?

Anyone actually own them can make a comment?

Hurry up then I'm interested too :p

Been wondering about these things for ages and have always turned a curly at spending more on stands than my speakers :D

I'd be interested in knowing if they make any difference as well.

Little bit skeptical about them at the moment. . .

:)

Well proper speaker placement can certainly help improve the sound of your system (vertical placement, toe in, and breathing room).

Decoupling usually doesn't bring as much of an improvement unless you are having issues with unwanted vibration noises (speakers on a glass desk for instance).

Not sure why anyone would be sceptical - speakers are clearly higher up when these stands are employed :p

I have a pair.

Do they elevate my monitors up to ear level? Yes.

Do they stop my neighbours from pooing through my letterbox in a desperate driven-insane-by-resonant-bass style act of revenge? Yes. So far, anyway.

Do they improve things sonically? Yes, though I didn't do much comparison without them, as I bought them the same time as my monitors. This YouTube video was the deciding factor in me buying them:

Are they worth 70 quid+ ? Dunno - it's up to you, your disposable income and the strength of your desire for accurate sounds and an unfouled hallway. If you're expecting a new dimension in audio to be revealed like a fourth primary colour, you're in for a disappointment. If you're expecting a noticeable improvement in clarity/tonal separation, particularly at the low end, you'll get it.

I'd say these - or an isolating system like these - are a must for a studio or other critical listening environment. For music enjoyment, they're not essential.

you're spending too much time in GD, we don't poo through letterboxes in here, we're far too civilised :D

I currently use a pair of Atacama SL 200mm metal stands (without the carpet spikes!) which go for more money than these which support my KRK VTX6's.

My speakers are at the perfect height for my ears on my desk. Really not sure if these Iso Acoustics L8R Monitor stands will offer any improvement for me?

So I pulled the trigger, and ordered the IsoAcoustics ISO-L8R155. Yes it certainly ain't cheap as far as stands go and costed me £74.40, but I got my pay yesterday so it has made this less painful :D

Should get the opportunity to test these over the weekend and try to comment as well. I'm not audiopile, so I'm not very good with the techical terms and terms that use by audiopile reviewers, but I would try my best to describe the differences.

I have setted mine up, and it definitely sound better with than without.

Bass does seem tighter and the overall sound does sound more "opened-up" sounding more spacious and has a bit more clarity. I'm quite happy with them, though is the improvment worth the investment of around £75? It would be down to the individual. £75 does seem a lot for a pair of speaker stands, but considering it is something you can use for a VERY long time and unlikely to break and you can keep using it for future speakers upgrades, it could be a worthwhile investment.

It might actually give better performance if actually to put that £75 toward the budget of the speakers if people were in the market for a new pair of speakers, but for people who already got speakers which they are happy with and just looking to refine the performance a little bit further, this might be worth considering. It's especially worth it if people place their speakers directly on their desk and the tweeter is not aimmed at ear-level- having these stands would make that possible (with the capability to slightly tilt upward/downward), and would definitely sound better putting the speakers on top of random things you find to raise the speaker's height.

Have had mine a while and they are excellent. Perfect for isolating the speakers from a desk. Noticible improvement in clarity, separation etc at all frequencies...look good too. Was too fast in building them and did not follow instructions so had to take them apart again :o

Well just out of curiosity I've bought a set of these stands to see if they make any difference to my current stands. If I can't tell any difference to what I already have I can send them back.

Or if they are better I can sell on my old stands.

I like the fact I can adjust height on these and angle them if I want.

You have made sure you bought the right one I hope? Cause the different models are different in size.

Yeah I checked the guide mate, I got the L8R155 which should be the right size.;)
Good. Hope it will not disappoint you.

I know they are just some plastic and metal poles and may not seem to worth such a high price tag, but it certainly did not disappoint me. I think the design in terms of appearance definitely look good, and just by looking at my speakers sitting on them (even without listening to it) would somewhat put a smile on my face :p

I'll let you know what I think of them when I get them set up, should be tomorrow with a bit of luck.
