Hotel has no heating or air conditioning

Get a cheap lighter and do that trick to get a super high flame. Then just find a way to keep the button pressed down. Get a 5-pack going and the room will be toasty in no time. Careful though, eventually it will heat up the plastic and the lighter will explode.

So you can't like the 'Adagio for strings', attached....
V. good. Nice to see my utterly dreadful situation has challenged minds, but hopefully it will help in getting me through the night :)

After careful consideration asim18, I decided against for fear of carbon monoxide poisoning. Otherwise your idea definitely had legs :D

Playing now. Very relaxing. Was thinking more Tiesto but this is actually better.
It really helps push the self-pity and wallowing to new and previously unseen levels.

I'm totally waffling now. Must be the air temp dropping and the inevitable start of hypothermia. Good night all.

Doesn't every part of France hate Paris? Even more than they hate the English I mean?

Things that would help this thread: Freefaller topless and his views, probably.

I don't know about every part but in a good many of the rural parts of France I've stayed in the locals didn't have much time for Paris or, more often than not, Parisians.

My French peers don't have much time for Parisians, I tend to work in the south and on the German/Swiss border.

Also have to counter the France is a **** hole statement. This experience has been a rare exception. However, French people do tend to be quite rude. More so than any other country I've visited. So abrupt and sometimes overtly flatulent.

To be honest it wouldn't seem right if they suddenly awakened to politeness and general every-day courtesy. Their rudeness is part of their unique charm!

Anyway after some thought, I've had to work for people in the Middle East. So France aren't the rudest. Though perhaps they are in Europe :)

Most recently Qatar. I've also been to Tel Aviv and soon travelling to pretty much all of UAE and Saudi. Which will be nice given the current tensions over there.

Got a late call to travel to France yesterday and all the nice looking hotels were booked. So found a place to stay via Booking.com.

Aside from the fact the gym comprises 1 x treadmill and 1 x cross trainer, the pool is actually a little larger than a hot tub and the Internet connection is terrible - all standard and mostly ignored/forgivable - they have told me the heating and air conditioning is broken throughout the hotel. Running on ambient temps here and utilising windows! (talking about the glass sort here, not the OS :p)

They're still charging full price - seems unreasonable to me. Can I/should I press for a partial refund?

It's charged to the customer but it's the principle!
Unless you speak fluent French, good luck getting a discount :D!

French hotels are terrible. Parisian hotels are worse than French hotels in general. They have exceptionally low standards of presentation and service and seem delighted with that.
