On a scale of 1-10? Let's say 10 is herpa-derp-derpity-derpy-derp.

I have Sky's entertainment extra package. "Documentaries", free channels, and "premium entertainment" channels.

Mostly it's all ****, all the time. There's so much American BS, and I'm 99% sure only the dumbest of yanks would enjoy even that.

There is literally no value in programmes like "Ice Cold Gold" at all. It's like having a very slow lobotomy. I can't even watch for more than 30 seconds because it's that bad.

Has TV always been terrible? Or is it much, much worse today than ever before?

And why am I paying for Sky to pipe all this ***** into my house?

My TV situation is great at the moment. No shortage of good US dramas to watch across the usual decent channels, and all the good British comedy panel shows have started back up lately too. Sky have also just added the latest season of Justified (along with the previous ones) to on-demand.

Stop watching crap.

If it's that bad why do you have it?

We are/were big fans of factual programmes in this house. We don't watch much of anything else.

Perhaps the decline in quality has hit those channels the hardest.

Back in 2000, when I first had cable, you could watch the History Channel all day and it was all historical documentaries all the time.

Now it's Ice Cold Gold, Aireplane Repo, Wicked Tuna, Axe Men, and other rubbish. And that's being pretty unfair to rubbish, really.

I think it's got worse. I don't remember mythbusters being this bad, last few series they've obviously been doing the experiments wrong, and they hardly do anything per episode now. It's all coming up, this is what happened before adverts it's infuriating. and I remember interesting documentaries from we2 and ancient civilization what happened to that?

Still in the slow progress off getting rid of sky. Got HTCP fully working now, with freesat, Netflix, amazon prime and NowTV. Nowtv still has some live channels mainly interested in
sky1 for background TV, Simpsons/futurama etc
Fox/altantic for series walking dead, Game of thrones
Discovery for **** man TV, but those series are annoying me more and more. Set up, rubbish and treat you as an idiot.

I will miss skyF1(might have to get sport passes on ebay) and watch (for masterchef)

This week just testing out the htpc and then hopefully phone up and cancel and save a hell of a lot a month.

Dr who is now **** and given up on it. Top gear isn't on nearly as often as it used to be, and only really interested in the specials.
There's just nothing really good.

In fact the only thing I get excited about is a webseries called Tmro which is a space news show on live stream/patreon. I hope more and more people go to such platforms and aren't constrained to the **** TV producers.

utter utter dross,

seriously considering ditching sky and going tvless

only issue would be the kids love their cartoons. which may cause a few tantrums

Got freeview in my room, all I watch is Top Gear and Dr.Who even though I'm losing interest in the latter. I use Netflix to watch tv shows/films as well as grabbing shows off the net from 'elsewhere'.

Because you're a complete mug, like a great many other Sky customers

:D

About right, I'm sure.

The other thing that greatly annoys me is that Discovery Network channels are now producing more and more "fake" documentaries.

They are allowed to do it because they are an "entertainment" channels and have no mandate to educate or inform.

But they are now using actors to pretend to be scientists, faking fossils, and worse. Not just talking about their "Mermaids" programme, which was obviously fake.

But the stuff they do on dinosaurs has been proven to be a sham too. Interviewing scientists who don't exist (actors). Using lots of CGI. Claiming to have found fossils that the scientific community knows nothing about.

It's pretty shocking.

Ahh I see, in that case yes I agree, factual/documentary programming has become rather diluted by the crap about people driving tow trucks or opening auctioned-off storage lockers.

Pretty-much why I've never felt compelled to pay extra for the likes of Discovery, History etc.

I find it very frustrating in general - about the only thing I really watch is top gear, there has been some odd really good stuff like our war though and a lot of stuff I do want to watch either isn't available here for years after its aired elsewhere, have to jump through hoops to watch it or gets cancelled and so on :S

Ditch Sky, get NowTV entertainment package...£27 versus £5...hmmm, gee well let me think!

Did it a few months back, will never join Sky again.

If the premier league and FA would get into the 21st century and allow all matches to be streamed live across the board I would have Virgin/sky at all and simply for that.

If I could find reliable streaming sites now I wouldn't pay for tv.
