AMD begins slashing the prices of its Radeon R9 290, R9 290X GPUs

Most people who wanted a 290/290x already have one, everyone else is on nvidia equivalents, mainly the 970 at this moment in time. It's been shown in the past that AMD having the lowest priced card doesn't make it more popular either. Gibbo also said for the moment it won't affect OCUK's prices that much, he is trying to get the 290 down to £199.99 though. Seen a few people say they'd still take a 970 over one.

I very doubt that, Most gamer's never buy the latest tech, you would find a lot more users still using 7000 series that would like to own a R9 GPU. I would even say that they is more 7000 series users than, R9 series and even more using 6000 series than 7000 series.

Not every PC gamer has the money to buy latest and greatest tech. Same goes for nvidia users.

So AMD cutting prices is still a good thing for other users still on older tech.

I don't think you understood my point shankly, not going to bother derailing another thread with you though. I never said AMD cutting prices wasn't a good thing either.

I think what he was saying is simply - too little too late

It's easy to drop prices however the majority of people who would be looking at a card with the performance level of 290, will probably already have taken the plunge and purchased one months ago.

i look at this as a clever ploy from AMD to tempt current 290 owners to Xfire, i know i certainly am considering buying a 2nd now, where i was holding off for the 390 type card next year, now im tempted to buy another 290 and then trade them in for a 3XX card next year :)

Clever, AMD getting people to spend cash they wouldnt have bothered spending really lol

What's happened with oCuk's recent run of 'cheapest in UK' gibbo?

Were preparing our next run, as I already commented it is our target to be able to offer £199 and £249 for 290 and 290X. Right now the current price drops of £220 and £300 for 290 and 290X are a small move from where we were already at.

Until I get the price points I want I shall hold off on buying as should you as AMD and board partners will give in to my demands. :)

Great news Gibbo, squeeze them for the best deal you can get

Oh well, it will at some point hopefully.

One would hope so, it will simply depend if AMD still have inventory piled up or not, if they do they will want it gone, if they do not then they will not be so concerned.

I'd like nothing more than to drop them to £499 as they sell like hot cakes. But for now prices will hover around £650 for them.

page 3 ... lol i thought this would be still the hottest topic here.

nobody is interested because it's too late now, everyone is buying the GTX 970 instead

the only thing that would really excite me is if the 295X2 dropped in price

I am!

Competitors might be happy with £215 for 290 and £270 for 290X, but I know that is simply not good enough for you guys.

Give it a few days or a week, I am sure they will give in to my demands. :)
