M135i to go..

The M135i is a fantastic car to drive on track, sure it isnt a fully blown race car with rock hard coilovers but really this isnt needed.

I take it you have actually been on a track day in your car to be able to pass comment?

I don't get all this lark about the C63 just being another C Class. I don't see anyone saying the M135I "is just another 1 series". Which it is... But I don't see why that should be an issue.

I don't see why its an issue either but it clearly is an issue for you, you don't like the fact the M135i is just a 1 Series. Which is absolutely fair enough but I suspect that as soon as the novelty wears off a C63 you will realise it's just a C Class when its being driven normally - a car thats older and more dated even than the 1 Series.

If you honestly want something that feels special every time you get in it then you need a ground up sports car not a hot regular car.

I dislike like that (to me) it doesn't feel or look special. I think its a good looking car but doesn't really set itself a part from the rest of the 1 Series family. That I knew from the start and was prepared to overlook that because of the performance on offer.

As for age. I mentioned this during my review of the C63 in the Merc/AMG thread. Yes the interior and infotainment system was/is dated. Especially compared the 1 Series' interior and iDrive. Those two draw backs are eclipsed by the performance, exterior looks and sound. I highly doubt I'll get bored of it.

No I havent. I just have a strong belief that I'd get more enjoyment out of the more track focused mini.

How does the C63 change that? The only difference really between a C63 and a C220 CDI AMG SPORT ULTRA PLUS MEGA is the exhausts and a few subtle tweaks, exactly the same as 118d v M135i.

You are therefore surely going to run into the same thing again?

You asked whether or not you are nuts for doing it. People have answered yes you are.

Ultimately, it's your money, if you want to scratch the GP itch, do it. It is your money afterall.

You're likely to lose a fair bit of money doing it but if you're happy with that then at least you're making an informed decision.

True. I did ask and the forum has answered lol.

Really... How does the C63 look like a C220 CDI AMG? You only have to glance at both cars to know which is the C63.

And yes. I may suffer from the same feeling with the next car. I highly doubt it though.

Both are C Class Mercedes with AMG styled body kits. How does it not look similar? Car geeks can tell them apart - you and me can tell them apart, but fundamentally they are very similar.

Which is hardly surprising given they are the same car.

Get one if you want one, but if the reasons for you not wanting your M135i are as you claim then I can't really see what a C63 is going to do thats so obviously difference.

Buy a proper sports car, or forget this notion that a car should feel 'special' every second you sit in it regardless of whether you are stationary on the M25 or not.

They really do look similar, I was put off by this as I wanted a car that would stand out a little from the norm. That's why I stayed away from M3/C63 as they don't look special enough to me, and if you don't think the M135i looks special enough, the C63 appeal will be short lived.

New Ford Mustang 5.0 V8, that will be special.

Good shout!

Can comment directly on this - my brother had a Cayman S and moved to a C63 and he's disappointed overall.

Yes it sounds great but it empties it's tank instantly, it feels heavy and soft comparatively, it's TOO quick to actually enjoy on the road, to most it just looks like a normal C class.

What you need is a sports car, a Cayman / Boxster / GT86 / 370Z / MX5 etc. Something that actually feels sporty rather than a tarted up mainstream model and that requires you to work the engine rather than nibble at the pedal like a C63 would require.

The C63 coupe corners more neutrally than last year’s sedan but is still riotously easy to slide, and abrupt inputs at the limit can easily turn cornering into drifting. Hold it together, though, and it sticks for 0.91 g. Although that figure isn’t as high as some of the numbers we’ve recorded from the benchmark M3, the C63’s utter lack of body roll means the Benz changes direction with seemingly supernatural immediacy. We like the quickness of the steering for informal back-road blasts but found it a touch too light and twitchy when chasing lap records.

As a whole, the C63 AMG coupe is a shocking, intimidating, and tremendously rewarding car. Is it better than the BMW M3? You don’t expect us to answer that question without a head-to-head, do you? We’ll get back to you.

Yea the 12' onwards C63 sounds like a terrible car.

I think the key phrase in that review though was 'at the limit'

How often will that happen in a C class? Most of the time the car would just be used the same as a normal C class just with worse rise quality and terrible fuel consumption :p

I love the mini GP always get excited on the very very rare occasion i see one hoon it past me

I imagine the 135I is a fantastic drive and no doubt superb but i know what the OP means it lacks presence IMO, but I'm not a fan of the 1 series anyway so I'm going to be biased.
they also seem to be really popular round here they are not a uncommon site like a mini GP or something a bit more marmite you could say, I have always thought the 135I was abit "safe" styling wise

Seems like too much of a downgrade to me, spend 2k on an MX5/MR2 and have some great fun on track in a car you don't really have to worry about.

Then when you're ready to spend the money on a car you feel is more 'special' you won't lose anything by buying the Mini. I'd not feel comfortable taking either the 135 or the Mini on track tbh
