What's app - Stop status showing online?

Is this possible? I know you can stop people seeing when you was last online. But I want to know if you can stop people seeing when you're online.

Go to settings-account-privacy-last seen and you will have the options everyone/my contacts/nobody

Pretty sure it still shows you're online though even if you hide last seen.

Yea it does, and this is what I want to stop.

It's annoying as I'm often at work when reading messages and it's been remarked on that I read and don't reply, so I'd rather have people think I've not read them.

Maybe try to read the message in the notification area, and then swipe it away without actually opening the app? Not sure if that works.
