Nexus 6 Rumours and Speculation

Does PIE work on PA?

Nope, no pie controls or any other soft key apps work apart from Button Savior app so at least now I have control of the phone and can go back/home etc instead of having to restart every time. Even in recovery the back/home keys do not work so it seems to be physical.

Still can't work out why this has happened. I seen loads of posts from searching about the digitiser being faulty but the phone was working fine for almost 2 years now and I never dropped it.

Doesn't matter now, Moto G v2 will be here today. I just don't know what to do with this Nexus 4 now. It works as a phone 100% you just have to use different buttons to navigate :(

Seems its a digitiser problem, maybe it can occur after a while :|

Sorry to hear :(

I just discovered the OnePlus One (not htc).
Looks like I may be buying that. £260

I was tempted to go for the oneplus one, but with the variety of issues it's had I'd rather wait either for the Nexus 6 (still hoping there might be a 5.2in version) or the oneplus two if they don't make the same mistakes as with the one. Even if they have fixed everything in software the manufacturing faults are still there (such as grounding issues) afaik which I would rather not have.

Care to tell me about or link to these issues? They don't seem any more a big deal than what most early adopters would find as annoyances, especially among an even more hardcore user base of this phone

Just have a read through the oneplus one thread where some issues are discussed. A couple of issues I remember reading about is there is a problem with grounding which affects signal strength and the touch screen picking up touches when you didn't touch it. These would go away when you plugged in the usb cable. Another is part of the screen would go a yellow tint. I know they have released a fix for the grounding issue to mask the touchscreen issue.

They may well have managed to mask any issues with software updates and I may be picky but personally I would rather a device with no hardware issues than one with hardware issues masked by the software, even if the end result is the same. Just my opinion, but either way it does look like a pretty good phone, especially for the price.

OK guys, adding to the latest thinking about the Nexus 6, the Wall Street Journal (usually very well connected to sources) is running with "three people familiar with the situation" say the new phone — code-named Shamu after a killer whale (love it!)— will have a 5.9-inch screen, a high-resolution display and be sold under the Nexus brand.

Google thinking about a 5.9 inch screen would run as follows:
1. In 2011, 1% of smartphone sales were greater than 5 inch display screens. In 2014, according to Strategy Analytics, these smartphones will make up 24% of the market. This fact alone forced Apple's hand.
2. Google wants to sell devices but as we all know, Nexus phones are also for software developers to test the newest version of the Android Operating System (L) on a particular device and form factor. Google then hopes other OEMs will follow its example.
3. A Nexus phablet will help Google reach some of the next billion consumers coming online who do not own a phone or do not own a computer, with a 5.9 inch device being closer to a small computer in size. Having a high resolution phablet, esp for Asian customers who view the phablet as a status symbol according to many articles I have read, would then be able to choose between the expensive iphone 6+ and the significantly cheaper Nexus 6, with an equally good high resolution screen. The iphone 6+ costs more than $ 800 SIM free in Asia, which puts it out of reach of many.

I expect we are going to get the release announcement within the next couple of weeks.

And in case anyone doubts Google's ambitions in the developing economies, I saw this link to an article in Economic Times of India stating that the real winner in ecommerce in India appears to be Google. Accessing Google for the next billion people in India will be easier than ever....from the recently launched Nexus One (for less than $100 SIM free) to catering for the top of the range with the Nexus 6 phablet. And you can rest assured that with Sundar Pichai heading up Android and Chrome at Google, for the Indian buyer wanting a slightly larger and inexpensive device (eg laptop), the Chromebook market should explode for Google in India too. It is already a dominant form factor in the US education market. India is one example in emerging markets of where the Nexus 6 fits into Google's range of form-factor thinking. So guys, expect the Nexus 6 imminently.
