AMD begins slashing the prices of its Radeon R9 290, R9 290X GPUs

I can ask, what is lowest price you've guys seen elsewhere so I can aim to beat that by a good £20-£30 :)

£387, but even that seems quite high. Do us a great deal Gibbo and I'll take at least one, possibly three. :)

Doesn't seem to be that many places selling it unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

As for price it would have to be sub £350 minimum before I could consider buying one. Ideally lower, I know that's probably asking the impossible though. :)

My work is also my hobby, so really i never clock off. :D

In the grand scheme of 290x's yes, but don't forget it's a monster card and pretty much the only true clockers card in the entire r9 range and (I may be wrong) the only r9 card with Sammy ic. ~£380 isn't a bad price, if gibbo could do sub £350 it would be a real winner.

Agreed and i would surely get at least one if they see reasonable pricing. :)

Any chance of knocking £100 off the 290x Tri-X.... Sapphire will not mind. :)

If you don't ask and all that.... :):D

Currently Sapphire pricing is poor, minimal discounts. :(

The partners seem very reluctant to drop prices much, only the reference card deals are the strong ones at present.

They have to leave themselves a profit, no point in dropping prices if they are giving them away.

I think its going to be a difficult few months for AMD and their partners, but i think they will be back with some awesome stuff in the new year. :)

I can't help but wonder about that 500mm2 tape-out slide. Of course, they would've started the hype machine by now surely...

I can't see the point of 500mm on 28nm for AMD, the 290X is 440mm.

Thats space for 15% more shaders, it would bring the shader count to about 3200 to 3300 and actually only result in about 10% extra performance.

No point for such a big die.

Unless AMD have an improved architecture revision and / or HBM adds another solid 10%.

A 500mm Tonga with a 512Bit Bus / HBM might be pretty good.
