Irrational fear of dentists?

Dudes to be fair even though they're qualified(or Allegedly) it's still a bloke messing around inside your face with sharp, stabby, drilly implements anyone who does have a fear of them it's rational when you compare it to the irrational fear of say spiders... myself I've no problem with them although I do find the trips there disconcerting as for all intents and purposes the dentist and his assistant are the only ones who can see whats going on your sat/laid there like a lemon unable to say or do anything about it as they mess around inside your mouth the worst is when you hear something like "oops" and your there like  "oops what?" yet unable to voice your concerns!

No, I don't have any irrational fears.

Why do you need to go to the dentist just because you're getting your wisdom teeth through though? Mine have started to come through and the thought never crossed my mind.

For some people it's excruciatingly painful.

I've had loads of crap dentists, bad teeth runs in my family - maintain em how you like they won't last.

My advice is man up, dentists make mistakes, I've had one botch a root canal and cost me a tooth. They're not making televisions, they don't give guarantees of success.

But you know, worse case? A bit of pain and blood, you aren't gonna die.

What's irrational about a fear of dentists they hurt folk a lot and chage huge fees, I have a rational fear of dentists but i overcome it becsuse they are a necessary evil!

You don't know that .

Fair point though.

It's the reason I call it an irrational fear as I know nothing bad can really happen but I still end up barely conscious with a rocketed heart rate.

Never really understood the fear of going to the dentist - unless your dentist actually hates you. I've had a few relatively major procedures and its all been pretty routine the injection is barely comparable to someone running a biro across your skin and then you feel nothing else.

In the middle of having a crown done at the moment and the guy that went in before me was actually shaking, telling everyone he was listening to "hypnotherapy tapes" on his mp3 player and joking (I assume) about having had to do cocaine before he could step in the office. (And apparently according to the receptionist hes not as bad as he used to be).

my other half is petrified of anything/one to do with needles after a doctor accidentally snapped a needle off in her arm when she was young. she goes cold even seeing them on the TV.

Its still in her arm all calcified up, its really weird to poke

They left it in there?

When that happened to me i had to have my arm sliced open and it removed.

I used to hate going to the Dentist but recently changed to a really good one.

The guy is really good and is constantly talking to me and reassuring me.

At my old Dental Practice, I used to have a different Dentist each time I went!

I don't mind the injections. I just don't like people being all up in my grill for any extended period of time, unless I'm sleeping with them.
