Will UKIP win its first seat in parliament tonight?

Nope, never said you were, just saying that everybody coming here gets "free money and a house" shows your position. You can read more into that if you want, and clearly have.

My "free money and a house" was in quotes for a reason. On the news the reporter spoke to a crowd of young men at the french camp and one of them clearly said "we can get free money and a house" It wasn't my view, it was said by the person trying to get here. Just becuase someone has a genuine concern, that differs from your own opinion, doesn't make them a "bad" or "objectionable" type of person that you dismiss out of hand due to a differing view.

Yes the free money and a house is a myth that is strong in the areas of the world the calais immigrants come from. Maybe its just a throwback to the heady days of labour and blair when we did give a lot more to immigrants. Seem the message "sorry we are full" hasnt trickled down to the areas in question.

They are coming on a promise of a better life that is no longer on offer.

It's probably the flipside to the DM-style headlines about immigrants claiming thousands in benefits and getting 3 houses to fit their 6 wives and 27 children in.

Not only does it make less-bright brits believe we are gifting the country to foreigners, it actually attracts more of them on the false promise of such riches. Ironic, I guess.

UKIP aren't anti-immigration...they are anti-unchecked immigration.
UKIP’s apparent anti-immigration policies are probably the biggest myth in UK politics there actual policy is almost identical to the Conservatives and Labour with an added point of checking everyone who comes from the EU as well as those from outside the EU. If people actually understood what UKIP’s position on immigration support would probably far away fairly rapidly IMO. It shouldn’t be a surprise either, Nigel Farage after all was a businessman for many years and understands the benefits that a managed immigration system can bring to the economy.

This thread is an interesting read a lot of the anti UKIP posters have tried to dismiss the results as one off and come the general election it will business as usual. I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the same attitude of current parties but what they fail to realise is UKIP has strong support from the traditional voter base of all the main parties who are “working class” and are disenfranchised with the current political parties. It’s not hard to work out why either as while I wouldn’t vote UKIP: I look at the Conservatives and see an average leader who’s struggling to hold his party together (I couldn’t care less where he went to school or how posh someone is), Nick Clegg who’s to smooth for his own good and the Labour party run by the metropolitan elite, feminists and career politicians.

There's nothing actually inaccurate about that poster, the entire population of those countries are now free to come here under the EU's freedom of movement. Whether they choose to is another matter but the point is as an EU member we can't stop them if they all decide to.

Fact is in Clacton they support the man, not the party.
I tend to agree with that. Clacton is my Thursday round. (Admittedly I'm there early in the morning but I'm still there :p) all I can say that people weren't exactly rushing to the polls at around 8-9am yesterday morning.

UKIP did have a larger prescence there than the other parties & their campaign was more noticeable than the other parties. There was one chap out early with a big sign saying 'VOTE UKIP' on the Holland Road & I saw a couple of Labour Canvassers but that was it.

UKIP also had a rather large campaign office in the centre of Clacton too & it has been there a fair few months, so a fair bit of Money has been spent them trying to get a foot in the Westminster door so to speak.

Clacton ? :P
Seaside town with high unemployment and skewed by 'Xenophobic' elderly population?
Good result !

Holland-on-Sea (north of Clacton) does have a lot of Old Age Pensioners. They've probably had enough of the mainstream parties & want change & they are hoping that it will be for the better. Clacton & the villages around it does have a BIG commuter population though. The main road out of the Town is jammed solid every morning at peak traffic trying to get on the A120/A12, so it is more than just a town of retired people too. Frinton is a very rich small town with a sizeable commuter population & its own train station, one or two train changes can get you into Liverpool Street in a couple of hours.

Funny old town is Frinton, its only recently (last 20 years) had a pub & a chippy start up there. The town is cut off by the railway line & there are 2 trains an hour. It had Manual crossing gates up until 3 or 4 years ago & Network rail had to install the automatic ones at night to avoid a riot from the locals, that's the sort of town it is.

it may be factually true but its never going to happen and they know it so it's provocative, misleading and designed to scare people,

not that it matters that much the whole system is rigged, UKIP are a sideshow.

They will come here because social and medical care at home is hopeless.

We cannot afford to look after the whole world.

fact is they didn't come as predicted by UKIP, yes it's possible for them to come but then its possible for the other 480 or so million European member state citizens to come also.

It is about as accurate as headline of "46.1 million drunken Brits ready to stag party in Bucharest this weekend" would be.

Our country will no longer be financially viable until our standard of living has been reduced to that of the poorest nation in the EU.
The EU seems to have no limits.
