** MSI TOP PLAYER TOP CHOICE: BIG AMD PRICE DROP!! **

For those thinking over the gosh-darnedly palletable choices we're being presented with Anandtech's benches are pretty tight:

R9 290X 'Uber' Mode vs GTX 970: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1059?vs=1355

Stock gives a small advantage to the AMD card, but when you include overclocking (on a decent card for both) Nvidia would take it by a small but noticeable margin. So at the same price you have a bit more performance and generally lower power/heat/sound for the 970 versus AMD's Never Settle bundle.

R9 290 vs GTX 970: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1068?vs=1355

The GTX 970 has wins as it does vs the 290X but with more of a performance differential and a bit less of a power/heat/sound differential. The R9's pricing however puts it into a different category and the bundle can't be forgotten.

Thank god I already got mine or I'd have spent all weekend mulling this over...

Are the rest of the system components identical in those benches, or are they just referencing a database of past results?

And to think I paid £300 (£260/265 once I sold the games on) for my 290 only about 3-4 months ago.....

Also, don't forgot, you get to choose 3 games from a decent selection including the choice of alien isolation & star citizen! So you could potentially knock of at the very least another £40 making the 290 only £180

£240 (£275 on sale) for an MSI 280X this time last year

:(
