Anyone had any experience with something similar to the above. Looking to upgrade my monitor and the whole 21:9 aspect ratio has piqued my interest. I'm also fairly limited in vertical height in my current desktop setup so the fact that it's not as high is a plus point too.

How well supported it is (both natively and through additional software) and how well would my 7950 perform with a monitor like this?

Thanks :).

Theres a crowd of us rocking the 21:9.
It's a very good upgrade to make, the immersion is worth it.

Download Flawless Widescreen to sort games that aren't natively supported.

Which resolution are thinking? EDIT: Misread the Title on my phone, never saw you mentioned the Res.

21:9 is awesome, I have a 34 incher (oooo eeer) and it is awesome, had a triple 27" screen setup prior to this and won't' go back ... well maybe 3 of these.

Games (the few I've tried) run great, old stuff that doesn't handle 21:9 you can still run at 1:1 pixel (so with borders) on the sides, Street Fighter (only one so far does for obvious reasons) you don't want to run this game stretched.

Res is important though, 4k = a no go with a 7950, but 2560 x 1080 is going to be fine with no AA

Been gaming on 21:9 (Dell 29")for a while now. Genuinely enjoy it, the immersion with games that do it well (Alien : Isolation ) is something to be experienced.

It can be frustrating when a developer doesnt actively support it, but luckily flawless widescreen seems to pick up what they cant.

Thanks for the input :).

Any recommendations on which monitor to get? I'm thinking 25" as they seem to be around £200 which is a nice price range for me personally but I can imagine the extra inches being quite a nice upgrade.

It's great! BF4, my most played game runs flawlessly and I haven't even seen a framerate hit on my 780 6GB. There's a long thread in the Monitor section but I'm very pleased I went from my 16:9 1080p monitor to the LG 29-UM65 Ultrawide.

Do not bother with less than 34" IMO its not worth it as the 25/29" are way too small vertically you would not get much immersion. 34" however is well worth the upgrade ;)

Play around on this site to see what the gains are.

I think 34" would be too soft at 2560x1080 to be honest.
If you're spending 450, you may's well save an extra 2 weeks and get the AOC when it launches.

way to small vertically? the 29" is 2" short than the 34". the immersion comes from the combined width/height of the 34" over the 29". However, just move the 29" closer and save £150 ;)

They arent too bad, same ppi as a 27" 1080p display. definitely are soft next to the 29" though. 34" is all about 3440x1440.

AOC is launching around £550 34" LG is only £449.99 right now! Exact same panel! 2560x1080 is not soft at all its razor sharp & a stunning screen you only need 1 GPU for. UM95 needs extreme GPU power if you have the money go for that but OP has 7950 nowhere near enough for a UM95.

84.96% larger vs 25" is a big difference ;)

nobody is talking about a 25" screen except for you and, anyway, i thought you were talking about the height of the screen, not the surface area.

Also, the 34" um65 isnt 'pin-sharp', you need to stop saying that. Same ppi as a 27" 1080p which are noticeable softer than 24" 1080p panels, 34" 3440x1440 panels or 29" 2560x1080 panels (among other less common panels)

OP is talking about getting a 25" I am giving him genuine advice from my experience not sure what agenda you have

25" is way too small for vertical height imo! Smaller than 23" 16.9 1080P monitor!

For my opinion on 29"/21.9, you can check my review of the 29UM65 in sig, I cover gaming as well.

As you can get the 29" for only around £40 more I'd probably go for that one were I to buy one now as it seems like a decent upgrade over the 25". As for the 34" I'd probably only go for the 1440 AOC monitor released soon if it turns up at around £500, but even then I find it hard to justify spending twice the price on what is about 2" of physical vertical height and then taking into account the added strain on the GPU (could a single 7950 even handle many games that well?).

Can I just ask those who have these monitors what the height from the bottom of the stand to the top of the screen is please.

Thanks again.

It's not that 2560x1080 is soft, but at that resolution it's not going to be the sharpest image.

I'd love a 25" for sharpness, but i'd consider it too small unless I was really close.

Gone for the LG 29UM65 :). Could justify paying twice as much for a 34" model (both 2560 and 3440) but maybe in the future if I enjoy this one.

Can't wait to try it out. Hopefully there won't be too much backlight bleed which I've heard can be an issue.
