Russian Grand Prix 2014, Sochi - Race 16/19

Bottas, could have upset Rosberg there, pushing too hard or tires just going off in the final sector, looked more ragged with pretty much each corner in S3 till a completely awful final corner.

Watching that replay of Bottas' lap, he had a moment with the wheel even before he turned the corner that he lost control at. I'm wondering if it was a car issue rather than driver error.

One thing is for sure, Bottas proves that Williams have a car that can potentially beat Mercedes

Not really, for me the times were tire limited, nothing more or less.

Bottas went faster in two sectors but got the tires so hot he was all over the track in the last 3 corners and much slower. A lap is a lap, three sectors, if the pace of two sectors causes huge problems in the third, then those times are meaningless.

We constantly see cars pretty close in qualifying but it means very very little in terms of race pace. Ferrari are generally miles behind in qualifying but race pace is far far more competitive.

Williams are doing well but race pace I don't see them as close at all, Merc's took a huge leap forward in Japan with more updates and I won't be surprised to see a similar advantage here.

Seeing the side by side of Bottas/Hamilton laps you can see why Hamilton is on pole. He took a softer/easier line to reduce load on the tires and conserved them. Bottas says he took too much out of the tires. If they had tires that could be bashed all the way around the lap I suspect the Merc's would have established a clear margin.

Nice qualifying from JB for once, but it looks like both him and K-Mag have just been told that there are opportunities for them outside McLaren...

If both McLaren drivers are to be fired, who is going to drive alongside Alonso next year?
Is Alonso choosing his team-mate or are McLaren deciding?
It seems odd that both drivers are being fired, unless Alonso (or Honda) have a preference for whom should be the No.2 driver for McLaren in 2015.

I think big Ron fancies his chances as no.2 driver.

Ah who am I kidding, he'll be the no.1!

I'd like to see jolyon palmer would be dejavu for Alonso. fair enough hes no Hamilton but it would be funny to have another young up start!

Great seeing Bottas and Kvyat putting in good performances there. About time the McLaren drivers did something too. C'mon Hamilton! :)

Even if an upstart (with Hamilton's raw speed) were partnered with Alonso in 2015, Alonso will definitely have a written clause in his contract of preferential treatment. In 2007, it was implied but never written in the contract. In 2015, he wont make the same mistake.

It just doesnt make sense to fire both Button and Magnusson - I can't see the logic here. Maybe Honda want to bring in a Japanese driver?
