Star Citizen-TressFX first glimpse

Edit it to what tommy? It is a factual statement, Sandi is VP of Marketing and also oversees customer service, she isnt a developer

You were gleeful in pointing it out though. :o

That's the difference between facts and trolling... glee.

Look for it in future debates! :D

Is there actually any point to TressFX in Star Citizen? Just seems like a check box feature.
TR makes sense, as would many many different games.

It doesn't matter/don't care if it's a factual statement or not, others don't go into hairworks/gysnc threads with negative statements.

I could put up factual statements/vids from Chris Roberts that put other techs in a bad light as counter but didn't as it just wrecks threads, if you don't want to help keep the peace in here then just leave it.:)

I wasnt having a go at hairworks, all this AMD marketing in regards SC might give people the wrong impression that this is going to be an AMD title, i was iust pointing out that the head of the company, who is also part of the development team, uses Titans in his rig, so it isnt going to be as one sided as the AMD marketing would lead you to believe

If you can point out to me where ive said anything negative about hairworks in this thread i'll gladly delete it

Googs said he didnt know anything about SC so i was merely trying to give as succinct as possible primer on who the development team are - the guys who were also behind the wing commander and related games and that theynare using nvidia tech every bit as much as AMD, which is good for both sets of owners

Elite Dangerous got funding off the back of seeing star citizen rising

It really didn't.

And i'm not biased, i funded SC before ED, what will kill SC is the dreadful community thats sprung up around it thats allowing Roberts to indulge himself in an almost Derek smart , Battlecruiser 3000 kind of way.

I was going off the fact that their kickstarter was after SC's and after the kickstarter they got outside funding (instead of going the wholly crowd funded route)
I know braben has been quietly working on/wanting to do another elite game, but my impression was that major funding only came after SC was up and running

I've also backed both, and overall SC still has me more impressed/more excited than elite

I dont go near the forums for either as people tend to complain over every little thing

@Andy,

AMD users don't bait/troll the hairworks/gsync threads, simple as that with facetious comments factual or not, too much fighting in here, only trying to keep the peace.

I dont agree, what SC lacks is solid core content , Freelancer was the same which ended up unfinished and felt like dual carriageways in space. The last solid game Roberts created was Privateer and that was in 1993 !.

The problem with SC is that it risks running itself into obscurity with hundreds of 'micro features' which imho at this early stage are totally irrelevant and not worth the developement time. In contrast ED has a fully functional game engine, a universe to explore and its core content is functional and stable, all the micro features are now being added but in a planned way. SC is a dreadful mess in comparason, what direction the developement is going in i don't think anyone knows.

Star citizen is being built like a PC game of old, supporting everything it can get its hands on just for the hell of it to make it "uber", hence why they added PhysX, Mantle, TressFX, etc.

I won't probably even buy the game since I suck at ones which involved flying aircraft or spaceships, but honestly its nice to see a game going full out on the tech side. Come on PC gamers be happy someone is actually doing it - for all the moaning about Crysis at the time, people look back at that still and wish there were more games like that now which showed the power of a half decent PC.
Its supporting tech from both AMD and Nvidia, meaning no one will be left out it seems. You cannot really please the PC crowd anymore. No wonder devs just rather just target consoles first if they can.

Squadron42 is the single player story campaign, plus after that there will be a non story driven open universe, but first and foremost is the campaign ala wing commander, where as Ed is only open universe, no planetside/boarding/fps etc. ED is closer to done because it is far less ambitious is my personal take on it so far

i agree it could all go **** up, but 54 million for actual dev time is way beyond what most games get so i wouldnt be surprised if it ends up being awesome

Fighter flying, multi crew ships, fps are all needed for the story, so they are being fleshed out now, but most of the customisation etc which is PU stuff hasnt really been started

I probably won't buy the game either, not got ED either and have no plans to at all.
I also can't be pleased by a tech demo. I'm not saying this is, but throwing technology at something doesn't impress me. I would rather play a game with great gameplay and passable graphics than a game with every graphics technology ever invented in it with passable gameplay. Save the tech demos for, well, tech demos, like the swarm demo. Spend $54m making the game fun and making it work.

ED isn't really close to "done" its relatively close to an initial release in the form of an update on the original games but its a long way from what they have planned for it which includes planetary content, etc. if they can.

David has mentioned several times he'd like to see as a long term goal the inclusion of things like being able to land on a planet and do a bit of (FPS style) "big game" alien hunting, etc.
