The below article may help the posters here who are not up to speed on the technical stuff. Coming from a PC background I hadn't realised console gamers not being well versed with how their machines work was a 'thing'.

"In the PC Gaming Industry, the target audience (PC Gamers) is usually very very knowledgeable about the technical aspect of their rigs. This stops AMD and Nvidia from attempting to use obvious marketing gimmicks, and when it does happen, the companies take reasonable flak for it. Sadly, however, this is not the case in the console Industry where gamers on average do not have the technical know-how of their box. This leads to technological jargon being wielded as a marketing strategy against consumers who would take the ‘tech explanation’ of a company as nothing less than fact. Before we continue, lets back up a bit and lay down the basic points of the case as they were. Here are some relevant extracts taken from VideoGamer.com‘s exclusive interview:"

Just confirms what we said earlier regarding CPU effect on resolution.

All this 1080p talk really is laughable, especially considering the best games ever made were all before anyone had even 720p tvs.

People are spoiled nowadays, i'll take gameplay over graphics any day.

How is it "laughable", what an utterly brainless thing to say. Higher resolutions are now standard, that is what happens when technology advances. All of the best games generally used the best graphics that they had at the time, making your argument completely redundant.

yeah like minecraft, tetris, super mario bro,and all cod games :D

It seems to be a common phenomena.

Person 'A' has a product that does 'X'.
Person 'B' has a product that doesn't do 'X'.
Person 'B' must convince self and others 'X' does not matter.

Sure 180p's isn't the end of the world, but that's how boiling frogs & incrementalism works.
This is why principals and foresight matter.

Look at the state gaming is in today.
-Gamers charged extra for real endings to games or extra maps that should actually be part of the game.
-Gamers bombarded with Micro-transactions for things that should already be part of the game.
-3rd parties paid off to delay or permanently exclude content on another platform.

personally i don't have a problem with any of the above if a game has enough content in the first place and maybe the content which was left out has been excluded as it may never have been made in the first place unless it was worth while.
micro transactions don't bother me either unless its pay to win which I'm not a fan of and will make me just avoid said game.
big companies using money to pay 3rd parties to get the upper hand over a competitor is nothing new in business nor does it concern me as i have all platforms, its something sony and microsoft do when they pay a developer to include exclusive content i.e. destiny on ps4 and microsoft paying for maps first on cod.

OMG 10/10

The games were good because of story and immersion. The best Mario is still the super nes one. Same with Mario kart on the snes.

These same games are still awesome today despite them not having the insane graphics you obviously consider to be of more important than substance and game play. Hell speedball 2 is still better than whatever dross fifa game happens to be out.

Hell even pong is a great game.. especially the multiplayer.. better than mario imo.
I think you are wearing rose tinted specs. There's no way you could get a Last of Us like experience on snes.
They were great games back in their day and still are, but they can't compete with the best modern games imo.

Amazon. ShopTo seem to be rather expensive these days.

They are... I just pop down to Tesco's and pick my copies up these days... the price is often the same, and I don't have to worry the postie will not have it... plus the Clubcard points are handy too... well I tell the wife that :p
