I am hoping you can help with our bedroom ligting problem.
Currently we have 1 single pendant light in the centre of the room and I find that it doesn't throw enough light at the ends of the room.
The simple solution would be to replace the fitting with one of those spotlights on a rail/track.

I can't help but feel that spotlights aren't appropriate for a bedroom though.
So apart from moving the existing fitting to one end of the room and installing a 2nd fitting at the other end, is there any type of "bedroom suitable" light out there that I could replace the standard pendant type with ?

whats up with spotlights? you can have those circular type ones with three or four lights on them

that's what we have in the bedroom, works fine

can aim them where you want aswell

Nothing wrong with them I guess, I just can't help but feel it's the wrong type of light for a bedroom.

I'd just do it properly and get several GU10s installed. Multi way lights in the centre of the room will always look ****.

I'd get a couple of sidelights and put them in corners gives you a much nicer feeling room than any ceiling mounted options.

Get some LED Strip lights up around the corners. Perfect as you can dim them, change the colour and best of all ... turn them off from your bed via the remote!

3 light 'triangle' or 5 light chandelier thingy is your best option. More aesthetically pleasing than other options.

I'm in a similar position to the op, with a single bulb pendant that doesn't produce enough light. It's this time of year you start noticing it more.

I was thinking about one of those round bank of spotlights but I'm not sure how nice it would look in a bedroom, so I'm considering installing dimmable LED spotlights in the ceiling, in two zones so that we can light the whole room or only part of it.

Neither are ideal though imo as downlights in a bedroom just seems wrong to me.

If your pendant light fitting isn't lighting up the room very well then chances are you'll need quite a few spotlights to replace it - probably 12.

I'd try a brighter bulb first with a shade to defuse it.

Really.... I prefer downlights in a bedroom, actually I prefer downlights full stop in newer housing. Obviously with classic/historical housing they might not work but with a newer 'box' house they work fine.

I've got them in my bedroom (and all of upstairs) split into sections with individual dimmers. Then you add in side/floor lamps for 'mood lighting'. Pendant lights are just a bit dated these days in my opinion unless they're being used as a focal point (ie over dining table or similar).

There's no denying they light more effectively. I just find them a bit cold and not that homely.
thats why you add in additional lighting in the form of a floor/side lamp(s) or even wall lighting.

You use the downlights to 'light the room' when you need it and the others to give that nice ambiance when you want homely :)

Also you could use warm tone (4500K iirc) lighting in the downlights to give a warmer more yellow light versus the more white/blue light from higher k ratings.

edit: got my kelvins the wrong way round :(
