Oh wow! I had otitis externa once, from getting something in my ear when diving. It was excruciatingly painful until the doc syringed my ear and this lump of something came out and clanged into the metal bowl. The relief was like nothing I had felt before, it was amazing and that guy must have felt like his head had just been popped to release the pressure!

More than likely. Seen one of those "in the ER" programs or whatever my missus was watching once and an old boy had been having non stop nosebleeds, so they'd bunged a load of stuff up his nose to cause it to coagulate. He was in to have it all removed. Stomach churning but looked like he was so satisfied at the relief of having it out at the same time. And his nose bleeding had stopped.
