Have NVidia missed the bus?

They're using Strix cards, which don't have blower fans. It would not surprise me if the top card were throttling from overheating.

PC Gamer got much better results with two reference cards.

scaling is limited by the 256bit bus ? lol, I love these kind of threads.... chuck in the good vram marketing tool too and I always have a sore neck with shaking my head.

If "the bus" in question is 4k, then no.

That bus is still parked at the station. A few people decided to buy expensive cars and drive ahead of it though :D

Seriously. 4k might be doable at the moment with the right hardware. But it's such a tiny fraction of gamers using it.

Of course if you go by this forum and other 'hardware' centric forums the numbers will look a bit skewed in terms of the uptake of 4k. But at the moment it's incredibly niche.

Nvidia haven't missed the bus, because that bus won't even pull away until next year and by then the 20nm Maxwell GPU's will be out, and they will be even faster than before (imagine that)

If you think I'm an Nvidia defender - I have a 295x2 and no...I don't have a 4k monitor. I prefer IPS screens so I have a 1440p for desktop/mouse centric gaming and a 55" 1080p plasma TV for most other games.

well all of the five people on ocuk should keep Nvidia and AMD in business :D

All the better for us eh? Guys like Kaap are good for the industry.

Anyway, I'm just being pedantic about the use of the word 'literally'. If you'd used the word 'virtually', I'd have stayed in my cave...

Its more than five people, OcUK alone has sold over 2000 4K monitors now and nearly 500 units of 295 X2.

Though it probably is those 5 people on our forum. :D :)

For me my dream would be 3440x1440 on 34-38" curved IPS 120Hz monitor if it existed. :)

256bit bus is missing it yes.

4k been as far I can tell the emerging market for a while now.
bigger is better.
2k hours in civ 5?
guess Beyond Earth is in the preorder then.

Dell 32" 4K monitor is great

Got it for a good price from OCUK

With a 32" screen text is just the right size on screen and no need to fiddle with resizing.:)

I suspect that beyond earth is going to get a lot of my attention, I have been playing the Civ games since the first one came out.

Give nvidia some time, the drivers are still a bit green.

Good one Bob Monkhouse. :p :D

I was watching the giantbomb gameplay video yesterday, I didn't realise how different it was from normal CiV. Seems like they are really trying to capture the feel of Alpha Centauri, so thumb up from me. :)

I dont think overall there worried about 4k tbh as its a small portion of the market, Yes it is growing and its still a important bit But it is in the minority and as most of us realise the 980 might be the current flagship but longer term they are a midrange card

This is only because we know it's poor. If they produced something that could handle 4k there would be masses trying to use it.

i dont think 4k prices are to bad at the mo, i remember paying over £400 for my first 24" 1920x1200 and my friend paid £600 for his 24" dell, you young whipper snappers dont know how good you have it nowadays

Pointless thread tbh, why would Nvidia produce a mainstream card and optimise it for a resolution virtually no one uses. 4K is a enthusiasts resolution and 980 is not an enthusiasts card.
