Got a GTX 970 G1 which has pretty bad coil whine imo. (loud electrical buzzing at load and high pitch squealing at higher fps, it goes especially mad on the windows index score)

I was wanting to know if any of the 970's genuinely have zero or almost no coil whine.

I've heard a lot have it and I've heard many don't, but I'm not sure if these people just don't know they have it.

I can return it and buy another G1 or MSI. I could receive another with coil whine but not sure about the chances.

Any opinions?

It's really strange I'm not sure why the 970's have had so many issues with coil whine. And I really want one but i don't want to keep buying and returning gpus back and forth
 
I can't recall anyone reporting whine on the Galax EXOC cards - they have quite a different vrm/cap design compared to all the other cards.

I have two and have zero coil whine.

Would you be able to explain the difference if possible? I'm not too clued up on the technical side of cards.

Does it whine only when benchmarking, with framerates into the multiple hundreds? If so, I think you are going to find that most cards do that - sure, not all, but definitely most.

If it's fine when you are gaming - and under normal windows use - as my MSI 970 is, then I'd call that a reasonable compromise.

Is it basically fan noise? How would you describe this noise?
Just bought a Gigabyte GTX970 and would like to know what to listen for.

Basically a squealing noise from the super high frequency vibration of the capacitors.

Did you get coil whine with previous cards?

PSU quality including cables etc can help create coil whine however if you had no issues before with your previous PSU then the chances are it's the cards.
 
I have a msi and the only time i can hear something is when i'm closing a bench mark, valley for example, and when i do hear something its really faint, smidgen of a smidge sound, and you need to put your ear close to it to hear it, not enough to annoy. Apart from that my card is silent, much better than my previous gpu's.
