Hi,

I'm seriously considering 980 sli. All I would really like to know, after running single card set ups for years, are there any bugs, issues or annoyances I should be aware of? Is micro stuttering for example still something to be concerned about? Is it easy to set profiles on the fly for different games with it enabled on one and disabled on another for example? That kind of thing.

Please don't take this question as an invitation for debate on 980 sli itself, I simply would like awareness on sli rather than the particular cards involved.

Cheers and thanks in advance :)

EDIT: only 2-way btw ;)

2 way is fine, you'll love it.

Not much to really say other than that. Don't get involved in any bickering regarding frame times. Micro stutter is now a non-issue with SLI & Crossfire alike. Very few games will not scale well with two cards

save your money mate, i bought 2 msi gtx 980 sli i returned 1 kept the other
sli was awful probably worse than amd.
the finding on games i tried
Shadow of mordor - ran better on 1 card, tried sli with fear3 profile ran better in sli but graphic corruption ie mountains all messed up. no sli support
ailens- no sli support(not that you need it)
Battlefield 4- ran amazing in sli
watch dogs- ran better with 1 card
titanfall- ran better with 1 card
i only had the other card for around 4 hrs but sent it back couldnt be bothered messing around with settings and profiles.
1 card will max all the games out no problem unless you running 4k monitor.
Sli is not supported very good at the moment, if you have loads of time and like messing around to get things working sli might be ok for u..

Oh, that doesn't sound good. What kind of issues were you getting on the other games aside from SoM? Stuttering, that kind of thing?

stuttering and dropped framerates, battlefield 4 ran amazing, i could have probably got the other games to run better, but cannot be bothered anymore to mess around, just what to buy the game and run it aint got time to **** about done enough of that with crossfire..
check the offical nvidia sli forum out for more info.

Please don't listen to this crap. There is nothing wrong with 2 way SLI. There is no profile in SOM and Titanfall because the games are yet to support it. It is down to both Nvidia and the games developers.

Edit, in actual fact, Titanfall does now support SLI, as does Watch Dogs.

Also do not read the NV forums as they're filled with the incompetent as it seems the most obvious place for those people to go.

hows it crap for someones opinion on sli, thats my opinion on running 2 980s in sli (my opinion), just because its not your opinion its crap.
do you run 2 gtx 980s in sli propably not so you dont know how they run on your system.
also if you read my post i say sli is probably ok if you have the time and can be bothered to get it to run correct, obviously like you can.
thanks

If a particular game doesn't run well with sli, I presume you can switch it off in that specific game profile, rather than disabling sli globally across the board?

So for example game A loads up and sli is enabled. Game B loads up and its disabled?

I'll be going 980 SLI when the funds allow after Xmas. I would never go back to a single card set up, after being SLI since the 580's came out. Never had any issues other than in some Helix modded 3D vision fixes.

The way I see it, if you can't run a game at max settings, you are not getting the full value you paid for the game.

980 SLI here - went from 670 SLI - didn't even consider going single card this time around. Shadow of Mordor runs brilliantly in SLI with a small profile change - no idea what happened on the other guy's system simply not my experience.

Generally NVIDIA are very good at getting profiles out before a game releases and if they don't a quick google shows you how to turn it on in 99.9999999999% of cases. SLI may require a bit of tinkering sometimes but then I find that with PC gaming anyway - it's not like we don't see problems with single cards too..

I believe he has 3 in tri sli.

Someone else may experience differently but it doesn't make it crap.

True, but if 95% of other people don't have a correlative experience of it what is it then? Personally I think you draw your own conclusions:

"i only had the other card for around 4 hrs but sent it back couldnt be bothered messing around with settings and profiles."

Enough said frankly. His experience stands but I don't think it's indicative of the majority.

Still doesn't mean he's right. Make just gave his own opinion based on his own experience and those were his findings.

You were telling him it was crap and then saying it might be ok if you had the time. It's just contradictory is all. I'd call that misinformation rather than an opinion but each to their own. Your 4 hours are your own experience and I respect that.
