*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

More info about the upcoming 2.0 software update:
http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/10/16/expect-ps4-system-software-2-00/

USB Music Player: PS4 owners will be able to play their own music in the background while playing a game using USB Music Player*. After inserting a USB stick loaded with music into the system, a new option for USB Music Player will appear. Supported filename extensions include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP.

Change colours: PS4 owners can change the background of the home screen from light blue to one of seven new colors: gold, blue, red, green, purple, pink, and grey.

Enhancements to live broadcasting: Masamune brings a variety of improvements to live broadcasting on PS4. In the Live From PlayStation app, PS4 owners can now select a Featured channel, which includes official broadcasts from PlayStation, broadcasts from people on a players friend list, and any game channel that the player has followed. Additionally, Live From PlayStation now has filters for searching broadcasts on a specific game, as well as support for archived broadcasts.

Friend finder: PS4 will now suggest players you may know, recommending close friends of your close friends.

Content Area and Library: PS4′s Content Area, which shows the latest games and apps a PS4 owner has used, has been redesigned to help make it easier to quickly find and access content. It now shows 15 of a player’s most used apps or games, and additional items will be added to a player’s Library. The Library on PS4 has improved filter and sort functions to help organise contented by type (game / app / TV & video), name (a – z or z – a), recently used, or install date.

Enhanced voice commands: The ability to control PS4 using voice has been improved. Players can now say ‘PlayStation’ to begin commands, and ‘All Commands,’ to see a list of all voice command options available. New voice commands were added for live broadcasting, including “Start broadcast,” “End broadcast,” and “Find face.”

Add to library: The monthly free PlayStation Plus games will have an ‘Add to Library’ button in the PlayStation Store. This button will add a game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it – saving space on their hard drive.

Back-up data: Data on PS4 can be backed up and resorted using USB storage. This will back up all data for the console, including settings, save data, screenshots, video clips, download data, and more.

Ooooh change colour !!! I am happy !!!

Give us DLNA !!!!

My favourite colour is blue so I'm happy already. :D

I am glad that there's a back and restore option on the way though, I need to swap the SSHD in my PS3 with the stock drive in my PS4 so this'll make my life much easier.

The 2.0 is super disappointing. The psn service is also super disappointing. I also miss the 360 online service. The 7 years I had it didn't have as much downtime/issues as PSN has since release.

Yep. I've had my PS4 around a year now and PSN has been down more times in that time than XBL was down the whole 7 years I had a 360. It's getting beyond a joke now. Sony need to either invest some serious money into PSN to fix it or they need to make it free again. At the moment it seems to be down once a week and that's just not acceptable when we have to pay now.

Really getting hacked off with it now myself - my playtime is limited so when I do get the chance to play and it is down its extra frustrating!

What are people's thoughts on the camera? Worth a purchase?

Hadn't given it a thought to be honest until I started playing Alien Isolation today, and the options it opens up intrigued me.

I bought a XB1 today, now if there is any game that is online heavy, it is going to be a XB1 purchase.

I'm considering a purchase also... but that is more to do with the master chief collection! I have decided however to back of my digital games strategy for a bit until I am really happy with either console!

Updateds are getting better but where is DLNA support .....

The truth is I don't need DLNA on the PS4 as I have a Roku which runs Plex, but it would be nice if Sony can at least get the Console back on level terms with the PS3.

With the constant down of the online service, lack of OS features and the XB1 price keep dropping, there is only so long one can cling onto the more powerful console card, especially when the games don't take advantage of them yet.

Go to your local Tesco store RIGHT NOW and ask for

XB1 (Solus or the Forza bundle) + The Evil Within + Alien Isolation

It comes to £305. Either console is fine, as long as there is no Kinect, it is all over Hot UK Deals. This is mine.

I expect they would have updated their system by morning.

Christ that is pretty close to 220 after selling off the games... hmm thanks for the tip!

GO GO GO !!! I've heard stories about some staff are being told not to sell them or pretend they have no stock...

I got mine at 7pm, they had no idea, the lady on the til had to do a double take on the screen !

I think it just goes to show, you can have the most powerful hardware but if you haven't got the software and services to back it up, it all comes to naught. Gabe Newell and his services-centric babble has been right all along.
