So ill keep it short... i have this monitor ** No mentioning or linking to competitors **

I want to buy these speakers and use them with the monitor for my ps4 and movies/tv shows

Will they work and how? Will any speakers work with it?

Plug them into the 3.5mm jack on your TV, and voila. Any speaker with 3.5mm jack will work with that monitor.

Speakers are output devices and they generally "work" with a source device, such as your PS4; unless your display device supports passthrough of some kind. Even if it's something as simple as a headphone socket, but you need to make sure the audio "gets" to the monitor in the first place.

In short, we need more info about your setup.

Also, don't expect anything decent, or even listenable from those speakers.

anything is better than what im using atm which is the monitors built in speakers. i generally use earphones/headphones so ill rarely use them anyway. as long as they are on par with most good tv speakers it'll do. the monitor only has a 3.5mm thing. cant plug usb's into it.

Any powered stereo or 2.1 speakers will be fine. Those Philips speakers have 3.5mm connection, so will work fine. Just plug the USB into the PC for power. Only speakers that also use USB for audio as well as power, would be no use.

Probably a good idea that the speakers connecting to the monitor don't cost too much, as the audio is processed by the monitor's internal DAC and amp. It's a monitor, so any audio output the monitor might have, takes a back seat when companies design them. It's there for convenience really, which is fine for cheap headphones or speakers to be connected to it, but anything with quality, would be a waste really.

Can anyone recommend me some cheapish speakers (id pay maximum £50 but ideally not) that i can just plug into my monitor's 3.5mm jack. my laptop isnt next to my monitor (i also use my monitor for gaming a lot) so i cant have usb powered speakers. Would greatly appreciate any help... all this stuff is headaches.

Creative T10 might be worth considering for £30. There are better speakers available for £50, but you'd be stretching your budget, and as I said before, there is no point spending too much on speakers which will be connected to a monitor.

If you'd rather spend less, then Logitech Z130 might be a decent choice.

Yes, they look good, and so do the Microlab Solo 1C, currently on offer this week for £50. Either would be a great choice I'm sure; however, connecting decent speakers to a monitor's sound output? Don't they deserve better than that? :p
