So its the Mrs 30th coming up and I was thinking of taking her to Paris for a couple of days. Neither of us have been before so Im just looking for any info on what to do where to eat and where to stay. Im looking at spending maybe £500. We would want to be visiting the usual tourist places. Cheers

I've usually stayed around the Opera / St Lazaire station when I've been before. There's a few reasonable hotels but still only a few minutes walk from some of the more up market areas plus you're only one stop from the Eurostar at Gare du Nord.

Aside from the usual sights like the Eiffel Tower and Sacre Coeur, if it's a nice clear day I'd recommend a trip to the top of the montparnasse tower. If only because you can't see it while you're on top of it and it has amazing views over the city.

Grab a bacon and cheese burger at Studio 5.

Expect to be ripped off for food & drink prices in the tourist traps.
Parisians are on the whole quite rude to you if you don't attempt to speak French.
Don't drive there, (especially in a Merc S class :( ) every car has a dent or a scratch & public transport is cheap.
Leave your valuables at home & passport in the hotel safe.
French Colonials try to sell you cheap tat.

Finally go here

There's so much to do in and around Paris. Usual museum stuff, the Louvre. The science museum. The natural history museum (the architecture of the old buildings is stunning). Then there's the tower and the arc. A ride along the Seine. If you're willing to travel out from Paris centre proper there are the churches, chateau's and castles. Those were my favourites as I like history and architecture.

Can't advise where to stay though as we always crashed at my uncles when he was stationed there.

Took my girlfriend there for her 22nd recently, it's a great place but there is a lot to do, so planning ahead is (in my opinion) essential.

Take a look on TripAdvisor, the other Parisian threads here, and any other forums you've been to. Nothing new has popped up recently, so looking at similar threads will get you more answers.

If you do go the Eiffel tower, book it online before you go (it's an awful website, we had to go on every day until eventually one day it magically said our day was available), you'll save a lot of time queueing on the day.

Oh, and getting there from the airport couldn't be easier (if you're flying). Train from the airport straight into the metro system is dirt cheap and very quick :)

Go somewhere else with a £500 budget.

Paris is nice but massively overpriced and you need to either spend a fortune, stay in a total hole, or stay a bit further out of town. There are numerous other wonderful cities in Europe where your £500 will go much further, £500 is not a particularly large budget if it includes everything.

Consider Berlin or Amsterdam.

THe Sacre coeur ( Sacred Heart) is a lovely spot to be around.

Montmarte is another 'cool' area, think Soho with all the drama that entails.

Course Eiffel Tower, Louvre etc...

I've been to Paris a few times and have never been wowed (well by the city, some of the experiences I have were pretty wow but that was nothing to really do with the location ;) ), I want to go to Tallinn

Pretty much this. The centre is beautiful, but the cheaper areas to stay can be very very dodgy - lots of pickpockets, scammers etc. I've been there several times, have had a couple of nasty experiences in the outskirts, but I'll probably go there again fairly soon and just pay the extra to stay somewhere nice.
