Advice for Layover in KL International

Got a long layover (10pm-11am) in KL International in December on my way back from Manila to London.

Since its a fairly hefty layover and at night I figured I would book into the transit hotel there Sama Sama Express and shut my eyes for a few hours before the epic 13 hour flight to London.

If it is going to be a total pain in the ass with clearing immigration/checking bags etc then I probably wont bother and will just use the lounge for a shower etc.

Anyone done this before and can I transit straight to the hotel without having to clear immigration? Will be flying into/out of KLIA terminal.

The hotel is airside so you won't need to clear immigration.

KLIA is an excellent airport but it's really not exactly brimming with things to do airside so the hotel option sounds like the best one to me. I found my stopover there dull enough and it was only 2 hours!

Have a few sherbets , read book/web and then fall asleep in a non busy area. KL Airport is OK for the above.

I've done it a few times. Certainly not worth spending £200 for a bed!

KLIA2 is tiny airside, wouldn't want to be there for twelve hours. But, if you're booking into an airport hotel you know what you're getting. Nb: I only add this for people in the future searching about KILA2.

I hate these questions. Clearing immigration (which you probably won't have to do) isn't an issue or hardship. Your bag sure likely checked in the entire way so that's moot. So the only question is, "do I pay 200 quid for seven hours sleep?". Which only you can decide.

If you have entrance to a lounge, I assume you're either a frequent traveller (have money to splash) or are on a work trip. If either is the case, I'd certainly spend your own or your company's money on a bed for 7 hours. I'm sure that being able to get a proper sleep in a real bed prior to the flight will help with the jet lag.

I've done stopovers like this before but at Singapore which has a little more to do including a city tour. I personally wouldn't pay that amount for some sleep though. I'd eat and then go and find myself somewhere to lay down and get some sleep on a floor or chair somewhere. I was lucky my stopover was the other way around, from 12pm until 01:30am so my aim was to stay awake as long as possible so I'd sleep on the flight.

I am flying from KLIA not KLIA2 hence my question. As I understand it the two terminals are not connected so my question is will I have to arrive at KLIA, clear immigration, collect bags and then travel to KLIA2 and then repeat the process in the morning or am I able to access the hotel directly from KLIA?

There are conflicting reports online and when I phoned Expedia to ask they had no clue and wanted to check me into a hotel several miles from the airport...

I don't even know why KLIA2 is being mentioned - it's a lowcost terminal which I doubt you'll be using. The hotel is located airside at KLIA. There is a separate hotel at KLIA2 but again, not sure how its relevant.

Expedia - lol! Have you tried calling... wait for it - this might blow your mind...

...

The airport!

:p

Nope you are right I never thought of that... Or maybe I did but given the call costs to Malaysia are c. £1 a minute I thought I would try other avenues first

I have managed to answer my original question by nipping into a travel agents in town and asking a lovely lady who wasn't dripping with sarcasm :)

I can fly into Terminal M, take the Aerotrain to the Satellite Building, stay the night for £48 and fly back to Blighty in the morning. Sorted!

Go into KL for the day?
That's what I'm doing next week. Flying in from Penang in the morning and on to FRA at 1am.

Dump/check your bags and then wander round KL for the day.
Hardly the most exciting city in the world but worth a visit.
Better than sitting in KLIA for a day.

He's there between 10pm and 11am, after delays, navigating security, etc it could be close to midnight before getting to the city, then needs to be back in good time

Not worth it tbh

Oops. Apologies :p

Either buy lounge access or just find somewhere quiet to sleep :)

Although KL hotels aren't a exactly expensive.
