Hey guys,

I'm looking for abit of advice on a new build. This will be my first self build in a longgg time, so I'm not fully sure what components are best suited for each other to produce the most stable system possible (I always seem to be curves with pc issues).

I'd like to keep it between £1500-2000, preferably more towards the 1500 end.

A few picky requirements, if that helps:
-I'm a fan of big towers, more space the better. I also have around 6HDD and 1 SSD at the moment, so a good amount of drive bays + ssd bays would be helpful. The corsair 750D seemed ideal for this?

-I do a lot of heavy CPU work (3D rendering, 3D apps in general (also why I need so much HDD space) so the more cores the better. Same for ram.

-I'd not great a case modding, but a few colours fans could be nice (green/blue), any suggestions on some good fans?

Few build questions:
-Ram.. I'm very out of the loop on this, I don't know much. The sticks I chose below were a rough guess.. so help with pick the best sticks for the mobo/cpu choices would be a great help (16gb)

-Mobo.. again, I've only used gigabyte, so I chose this out of familiarity, so any better suggestions welcome!

-GFX.. 970 or 980? I do gaming, but also need a solid GFX card (nvidia) for a specific 3D app, needs a lot of vram. Also.. I read something about coil whine? Any brands to avoid?

-Worth waiting for anything? This build doesn't have to happen -right now- so is there anything worth waiting for? (I guess there's always something coming soon though hah!)

-When building the machine itself.. is it best to get an anti static mat + wrist band? If so, any suggestions? Or general build equipment suggestions?

Current rough choices so far:

If you look under the Intel CPU section, there are bundles which can save you money. You could get 2x970 in there with some tweaking.

SLI 970s are probably overkill, what monitor are you running? But for £100 more, I'd be snapping this up
Enthoo Luxe is arguably better than the 750D, though I have the 750D and it's a great case so that's your choice :)

Thanks for the replies guys.

Ah yes, bundles! Actually didn't think of that. I'll check them.

I currently have a copy of windows 7, so I'll be transferring that over to the new build. Probably going to avoid windows 8 tbh.

I'm currently on 2x 1080p monitors, so the SLI probably is overkill right now.. but always a possibility in the future.

Hmm DDR4 was going to be another question. Is it worth it right now? Power for buck wise?

The X99 platform will cost more for the Motherboard, Cpu and Ram. If you can make do with a 4 core cpu then go for Z97. If the 6 core 5820K is going to make a difference with your software then you have the budget for it.

It might be a good idea to look at some benchmarks for the software and see what the difference is between the 2 cpu's.

The X99 spec looks like the best option if you use 3D software, the extra cores and quad channel DDR4 should give a nice boost. The X99 boards also have 8 ram slots so you would be able to add more ram when the price drops.

Yeah checking the benchmarks the x99 setups are better during the multicore rendering etc (I guess that was obvious thought). But looking at price compared to performance difference, I'll probably go with the z97 setup.

Thanks for the input guys, really appreciated.
