So.. Recommend me a good rear light, needs to be USB rechargeable, bright and with a good mount.. So no knogs! I've ordered a moon comet rear from Ribble but after a week there's still no sign of despatch, guess I'll have to cancel and order something else.

It's back. Knee-friendly 44/18 gearing, new tyres and I've switched up to a 120mm stem. Quite looking forward to riding fixed gear again tomorrow, it has been a long time!

Just ordered an exposure maxx d mk7 to replace my helmet mounted ayup light. It's more of a mtb light so I can use it on both bikes, I have a lot of backroads on my commute so it will be well used on full beam but on main roads I'll keep it on a lower setting which should help conserve the battery. I was tempted by the six pack for another £40 but it would have looked ridiculous on the bars and dare I say it, be a bit unnecessary!

Maxx D mk7
Max Output - 2400 Lumens
Weight - 292g
Burntime - 2-36hrs
11600mAh
Bagged for £268

Just keep it angled down.

The lights arms-race starts again then.

I wish a slow and painful death on all the idiots in Richmond Park who are either too stupid to realise or too selfish to care that their OMG-PortableSun 9000L is blinding everyone and robbing folks, including pilots on approach to Heathrow, of their night vision.

Grrrrr.

This rant will now be continuous until the clocks move forward in the spring.

I can't wait until our cycle lighting laws are updated inline with Germany.

Tried to come up with a route that involved some actual climbing, this was less than ideal as it involved just cycling alongside a dual carriageway for a while and the climb i was going for was more off road than i anticipated. Not too bad on the way up, but the descent on the other side was rough.

Do need to sort out the clicking in my back wheel, hopefully just another loose spoke nipple, but for now sleep i think.

Had a good day out at a few cycle shops as suggested and tried a few bikes out.

In the end I decided on this

Not quite the full road bike, but being an old fart I opted for a slightly relaxed style of ride.

Have to say that at Planet X (Sheffield) the staff couldn't have been more helpful and I could have spent a small fortune.

Not the quite the full road bike but very happy with my choice, delivery is Friday.

Nice bike! I'm sure you can still call it a road bike, there's such a wide range of specs and geometries anyway. How is that SRAM groupset? I'd quite like to go and try out a few bikes at some point, if only just to feel the differences between Shimano, SRAM and Campag shifters...

Thanks, the SRAM felt for me the easiest to use on the bikes I tried.Only tried these and Shimano.

Really wanted a road bike but just didn't feel right or comfortable. (probably down to my size).

Plus this ticked all the boxes I wanted from a bike.

Hopefully with a few months graft and shift some more weight I'll be able to do the bike justice.

Amen. And I say that as a driver too. Some bike lights can be blinding as folk don't realise they are to light the road.

Couple questions guys if anyone can answer:
1) Just got my bike Monday (Kona Dew 2014) - how many Km/Mi should I ride to "run it in" and that said, what's a good way to do that (like the gears and brakes).

2) On Strava what are the people with KOM above their names?

Cheers

Depending on where you got it, you might be able to take it back to the shop for a free service after a couple of weeks or so. Distance will depend on a lot of things, you can just do adjustments when you feel the need to. Say if something's making you uncomfortable you can make changes to the fit, or if the brakes/gears aren't working like you want.

KOM is short for King of the Mountain, a bit deceiving since a lot of segments don't even involve climbs, but it just means that they have the fastest time on a segment. QOM for women, i'll let you work that one out.

Today I'm going to be king of the spinner zoo / single VIP with my comical undergearing. I need to find my 17t cog, I swear I had one in the box :D

Best thing I can recommend is when you get an issue go onto the below website, it's brilliant for telling you how to do anything on a bike. Just changed crank, cassette and chain for the first time on my Dads bike using that website.
