Need some advice on headphones

Not sure if this has been asked before, so I'm just gonna ask :)

I kinda need to get some new headphones for use with my computer and stuff, as I can't listen to my speakers later on at night now that I've moved house :/

I've kinda narrowed my choices down to the sort of price range of the dt770s/990s etc and was just wondering which ones would be better for my usage?

I want some good headphones for gaming/movies and shows etc/music, in terms of music I listen to hip hop a lot, so I was looking for headphones with some bass (doesn't need to be huge amounts (but my very good sounding superlux hd681s have relatively low amounts of bass for most of my music, although I'd probably use them more if they weren't so uncomfortable after a while))

One of my big requirements is comfort, I have a pair of sennheiser pc350s that are relatively old, but they have the velour pads on them and after a few minutes I can forget that I have them on, so ultimately as close to that as possible (my vengeance 2000s get close to that but are a bit too heavy to make them really comfy)

Setup wise, I have a Fiio e07k that I'd connect the headphones up to that I'll end up buying. I was also considering getting an astro mixamp or whatever to pair up with the Fiio if that'd be a good idea?

Any help is appreciated :D

DT770 sounds like they would be a very good choice. :)

80 Ohm version, would be a better choice than the 250 Ohm version, as the 250 Ohm version would possibly be too demanding for a portable device. FiiO rates the 07K as 16-100 Ohm.

As for the Mixamp, not needed, as it will replace the E07K. Mixamp is really best for using headphones with consoles.

Little bit over budget, but I've been using the Fidelio X1s for the past month or two and they're absolutely amazing. They're nice and warm and the bass is just a little north of neutral, which sounds like what you're looking for. If you can find a pair used for less than the retail price I can't recommend them enough. They're only 32 ohms as well so the Fiio should have no problems.

Otherwise DT770/990 is a solid choice, I've heard nothing but positives about them. 770 especially is very popular on here I think.

Ditto what Marsman said. I have the DT770 250Ohms with the E07K and can confirm the E07K is nowhere near powerful enough for them. 80Ohms version and you'll be fine though.

The 770 will be ideal for your needs.

80 ohm DT770 should be bassy enough and has the benefit of being closed back, so will keep the noise down - it's amazing how much sound leaks from open back headphones when all else is quiet.
Comfort wise, I found the DT770 to be extremely comfortable and was able to wear them for many hours without problem.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll look into those suggestions :)

Only reason I was looking into the dt990s is due to the fact they're around the same price as the dt770 80ohms, and I thought they'd probably have a larger soundscape due to being open, although probably with less bass because of that too :)

If I'm honest, my ultimate headphones would probably be the k712s, but they're wayyyy out of my price range :p

The 250 ohm DT990's (there is no 80 ohm variant) do have a better sound stage but they also need a lot more power to drive them than the 80 ohm DT770.

770's over 990's any day of the week. The 990 are metallic, dry and just harsh sounding. They have good bass for their class and a wide soundstage just like most dry, trebly open headphones. The 770 isn't lacking in soundstage at all, it's unusually large.

ive just got the beyerdynamics DT770 250 ohms with a SMSL SD-793II Dac/amp via optical to my soundcard and before that i was using the razer kraken 7.1 usb, although the razer i used for gaming which done a good job, i find them uncomfortable, the Dt770 beats these hands down for comfort and sound ,you dont know your wearing them, i use them for my music using foobar, and i can recommend them over gaming headsets, im going to get the modmic v4 from ocuk to use with teamspeak and gaming.

Ok, so I'm probably gonna buy the dt 770s today, but before I do, since I got paid more than I thought I would, what would you guys suggest if I upped my budget to around £150 or so? Would it still be the dt 770s?

What would be the difference in terms of sound etc between the 612 pros and the dt 770 80ohms?

Also do you know what sort of depth the ear cups are? As my superluxes are a similar design, but the cups are too shallow to make it comfortable for more than a couple of hours use :/

I keep looking into headphones and wanting more and more expensive ones :(

If I had the money, I'd get the k712s, but they're really expensive :p

currently deciding if I should possibly get the q701s...

also, what would you guys recommend as a good dac that's not too expensive?

The K612 is more balanced , cleaner, more refined and versatile. It's just better in every way.

Not saying your wrong as I'm fairly new to the audiophile world, but if this is the case why is there quite a big price between between the two? Just general interest in the question.

I thought he was comparing the AKG K612 and the Beyer DT770.

And if you're after cheap K712's Ryan is selling his

It could be me that's read it wrong. Either way you'll not go wrong with either of the three. Just depends on your budget, what they'll be used for and what you have to power them.
