That count laptops out then too?
Most of them yes, though gaming laptops often have a discrete card as well as an APU
Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

This is relevant why?
Don't you think the console graphics APUs sharing commonality with the AMD discrete graphics cards as their basis for coding and code transport will be relevant in the porting and programming of games running on all three systems?
Nvidia is actually the odd one out and will require work to support compared to a near common code-base for supporting PC/XB1/PS4.
So singling out Nvidia as having a lot of "discrete graphics" and thus implying it will be the most financially viable to support in PCs doesn't actually present the whole picture.
PS4/Xbone/DX all require separate code paths as it stands now. Performance tuning for one will have little carry over to the other.
Also, how long are AMD going to produce high end chips based around the same version of GCN as is in the consoles? What happens in 12-18 months when for performance reasons they produce GPU's based around a newer and different architecture? We have already seen how Mantle has issues with newer architectures. http://anandtech.com/show/8460/amd-radeon-r9-285-review/6
I don't believe that having both consoles is going to be the magic performance bullet some here hope and believe. In a couple of years time the console GPU's will seem utterly archaic in comparison to PC GPU's with virtually no crossover between them.
That's where your wrong because this time round the console architecture is much, much more similar to pc architecture. Also combined with it uses GCN it means porting games over to pc is a much easier task than what it was before.

Have you not been paying attention to how dismal the current crop of games we've been getting are?
All this and that doesn't pan out all that well.
What's in those new console thingy's again?

Will Mantle be supported on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game consoles?
The initial releases of the Mantle API and graphics driver are intended for the PC platform only. However, one of the key goals of Mantle is to make it as easy as possible for developers to use the same features and programming techniques they are already utilizing for the new generation of game consoles when bringing their games to PCs. This enables better re-use of development efforts for multi-platform games.
Pretty sure MS gave the big middle finger to mantle support on Xbox One which is understandable as they have DX. No idea about PS4....
AMD say this apparently..

It looks like NVIDIA spend $5 million to optimize Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 5 and Watch Dogs. In fact AMD also is rumored to have invested a similar sum in Battlefield 4, exact details about these deals are unclear but word in cyberspace indicates this to be around $5 million to $8 million.
FUD Zilla reports the following on this:
We do know that Nvidia already has some Assassin’s creed demos with 4K textures that are supposed to look amazing as Nvidia agrees with AMD thinking that future of gaming is in 4K gaming. Our industry sources now tell us that it’s just AMD spending serious bucks on the Battlefield 4 deal. It turns out that the guys behind The way it’s meant to be played and Nvidia ISV (independent software vendor) relationship have spent about $5 million on their Ubisoft deal.
It involves two games, Assassins Creed 5 and Watch Dogs and our sources tell us that AMD was looking into a similar deal with Ubisoft, but it walked away simply as they believed that spending a similar or slightly higher amount on an AAA shooter like Battlefield 4 was a better deal – plus BF4 is the first game to support AMD’s new Mantle API, so it just made more sense.
No one can say for certain if Crysis 2 will become the same benchmarking standard as the original, but nVidia is taking no chances.
nVidia is taking no chances to the tune of $2 Million.
i dont know if its been mentioned but civ:beyond earth also has mantle you can see that if you double click on the preload and it gives you the option. Will be interesting to see the difference as its one of the cpu bound games.

Since civ:beyond earth is also coming to *nix, does that mean Mantle coming to the Linux Cat driver as well Matt?
Not long till we find out, game ships on the 24th of October, Friday.![]()
