Hi Guys,

Just after a little bit of guidance really.

Ever since seeing this car on the market, I've wanted one. Now I'm at the stage its time to change cars. This ticks all of my boxes.

But, the information on the running costs, problems ect are thin on the ground ect. What to look out on them ect, or even if someone has a driven/been in one can give there view on it.

I know the boxer engines have a good rep from the 4x4 range. But how are they in this car? Any costs I should expect year on year?

I know I should/could look at others but this is my dream car, If I don't get this because of some absurd cost that I'm not finding online, I will be going for a Sline A3.

Cheers

Looks fairly crap, why would you want one? It seems pretty much every other car of its type is better.

I don't see the point in putting up with the many negative aspects of a Subaru Impreza if you are not going to benefit from the very positive one - blistering performance.

Hard not to agree with the above, the engine makes a bit more sense in a legacy where you might want the massive boot and slightly nicer interior over the impreza.

I knew someone would come in and say that pretty much. Trust me I've looked at A3s, 1 series ect, they are okay and common as anything.

Still not putting it down,. The MPG is the only thing that should be better. For what I think it looks awesome, its an impreza without the bad MPG nor the speed - which I don't need. I do 26miles a day. I'm currently in a 28mpg car. Going to 45+ will be great.

The car ticks all my boxes as i've said and only thing I'm worrying about is the costs that I know are involved in owning a normal Scooby

The Impreza diesel isn't common because it just isn't that good. The Kia Rio isn't that common either, are you going to consider one of those as well?

It'll save you in the region of £35 a month. Nice enough but I wouldn't say 'great'. It's not the sort of mileage to really see much benefit from diesel economy, personally i'd rather spend the £35 a month to carry on running a nice petrol engine :p

Is 26 miles a day anywhere near diesel territory though?

I do 60+ miles a day in my DC5, tank of fuel a week averaging just over 30mpg I think.

Do you just want it because it looks like a WRX while actually harbouring a diesel engine, or are you after the AWD element?

I really fancied a legacy 2.0 diesel but was put off with the stories of main bearing failures and crank shaft issues at quite low mileages and as there are so few of these engines around replacements are very costly.

I REALLY wouldn't want a diesel impreza, and that's coming from someone who owns an Impreza... as Fox said the ONLY redeeming feature of the impreza is it's performance, if you take that away its a pretty terrible car all in. Awful interior, noisy and very bland to look at. Non of those matter with 300+ horse power when you're power sliding it around a welsh B road or a race track but on a daily commute those things become more of a concern..

As detailed already, this seems like the worst idea ever. The impreza itself isn't the best of cars in terms of the interior etc. People only buy it for how rapid it is, far outweighing the negative aspects.

If you go for one with a diesel engine then you're buying an all round rubbish car.

A car being either common or uncommon doesn't dictate whether it's a bad or a good car. Silly logic.
