Best Horror movies to watch ???

I watched the grudge at the cinema with a group of fella mates, we all left feeling emasculated.

The conjuring is probably the scariest film I've ever seen as the story, characters and plot were fantastic.

Anna belle, while I mentioned in the watched last night thread, has the doll factor and is truly scary if you watched puppet master, child's play etc as a young child :(

There has been many more scary films, the haunting in Connecticut etc, but the above are the ones that have really scared me.

Paranormal Activity is a great film, with lot's of unbearable suspense and one of the most horrifying blood curdling shots in cinema.

Greatest single scene jump = Exorcist 3. You know the one! Edit - Kinda lost if you know it's coming though!

which shot was that? i cant recall for the life of me!

i echo a few from here, that have already been mentioned.

the grudge
the ring
the descent
REC
The silent house

There's "Horror" and there's crap "Jump" films. There's far too many of the latter at the moment.

There's a few already mentioned but i would like to add:

Pulse (Kairo)
Shutter

In terms of the Ring and The Grudge. Watch both versions, i prefer the originals, some prefer the remakes.

Strange but Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity freaked my wife out, but for me they are two of the least scary horror films around.

The found footage thing just doesn't scare me. For some reason I just can't get into those films and they seem more fake to me than a film presented entirely in the 3rd person.

I think the lack of music plays a huge part of it. When I think about all the films I love they almost all have a very strong soundtrack. I love the synth heavy horror soundtracks of the 70's and 80s. Especially films that use synth sounds when the killer strikes, speaking of which The Burning is on YouTube if anyone wants to watch it.

Undecided what to watch on Halloween...probably The Thing

A Tale of Two Sisters made me crap my pants as I was on my own, in the dark, with the sound a little too loud... :( I stopped it a third of the way in. Yes, I'm a big fat sissy girl! :(

U think all of mine have been said

These include
alien (I like them all even 4 and 3)
Descent
Quarantine/rec
Event horizon.. Great film never got recognition it deserved on launch
Cabin in the woods.. New and fairly original
28 days later
Dog soldiers!

I personally liked pandorum

Pfft...go watch ' a Serbian film' ( NSFW : Google first please, not for faint hearted)

If you can sit through it and walk away feeling normal, then you my friend should seek medical help.

For me, it's gotta be foreign horror:

The Eye (Thai)
The Grudge (Korean)
L'interieur (French) - though this is more gross than psychological
Audition (Japan)

I think those sorts of film are 'cheat' films. They are only disturbing because the subject matter is just that, rather than any particularly good film making. Opposingly, films like the Blair WP made hanging out in the woods scary.

My point only works to a certain extent, but at least I know what I'm trying to say even if I can't articulate it whilst in the gym :D

Oh and event horizon would be an awesome film if it didn't have such shonky dialogue between the two leads:

"What's this?"
"I need more time!"
"THAT'S WHAT WE DON'T HAVE"

My favourite has to be the frequent observing of a completely unexplainable thing followed by "well what was that dr weir??" Every freakin time, give him a break! :p
