Britain asked to cough up £1.9 billion to the EU

Sensationalist headline, but really have to wonder if the EU actually wants us to be part of it when being a member of the EU/immigration is probably close to the top of peoples hot issues at the moment.

From the BBC "Mr Cameron is meeting his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte to discuss how they might challenge the surcharges"

Get a back bone and say pee off!

I'm sure if the HMRC did an audit on various self employed peoples accounts and determined they had made more money than previously thought, they would want their extra tax due from it

Don't see the difference tbh, so just cough up and stop complaining :p

If I've got this right, this extra money is due to a recalculation forced by a recent change to the rules that now include the 'black economy'.

So, the normal workers of this country have to pay for the success of our pimps and drug dealers who pay no tax!

I'm very much pro- the UK being a strong and central part of the EU. Unfortunately the EC seems to want us to leave! The fact that the internal member state political situation this announcement will fuel, wasn't seemingly taken into account just beggars belief.

So because we've tightened the strings and other countries aren't capable of managing their books we should pay up?! They should be told to **** right off.

He will veto it, perfect opportunity to stand up to them and change course for the Tories.

IMO we should remain in the EU, but we should have a MUCH bigger say. How can we be leading the recovery yet have such little influence over things like this?

How do they actually calculate the "black economy" exactly?

Are they really saying the uk uses hookers more than france!??!?! :p Doubtful.

The common voter will not be persuaded in any way that this is fair... germany getting a rebate? laughable. So we have to pay up while france sat back ( as usual ) and did bugger all... i think not.

The EU should be a TRADE thing not what it is trying to become... a crony led super state. It is in the interest of politicians to become more and more connected because they get a BIGGER tastier trough to shove their snouts into.

All we need is trade agreements and possibly cross border defence and security controls. Other than that each country should make its own economic plans and if they need help ask others for help not DEMAND it because of inaction.

 Its got sod all todo with other countries. We aren't paying it because other countries are doing poorly. It's calculated on how our economy is doing.

As said this wasn't forced on us we agreed it. We also have a much smaller say in EU than we should as we have sidelined our self. We need to embrace EU and jump in with both feet. And get the say and influence we should.

Its too late now, i would guess that most of the other main players see us as a cash cow now. With spineless leaders who submit.... well those days are rapidly coming to an end.

The sooner we stop these euro mad men the better.

Economic and trading partners and combined defense is as far as it should go!

Sorry but it always seems to be the UK that loses out... why the hell should france get a rebate for being lazy and doing less? how is that in ANY way rewarding hard work and tough choices?

The only messages this kind of thing sends is it is better to be lazy and do nothing and get bailed out by others than actually try and improve the situation. Trust the french to be hard working? lol
