Hi,

Would anyone please be able to advise me if there is much difference in performance and build quality between the EK-BAY RES D5 kit and the similar XSPC D5 Dual Bay Reservoir with pump?

Thx
Bintos

I've got the xspc d5 bay res and while it is nice and quiet, and smart looking, it doesn't fit properly into my 750d case. Either the case or the res is non standard? I had to file the inside edges of mine (behind the removable front metal cover plate) to get it to fit.
Basically if you have a corsair case I wouldn't buy an xspc res unless you want to do that.
The other xspc stuff I have is great. The rads are good and the fittings look awesome.

Hmmm, you are the 2nd person who has said that about the XSPC bay res not fitting into a case easily. It sounds like a very small manufacturing tolerance somewhere? I read somewhere else that a geezer took a belt sander to it to shimmy down the width. Amazing, belt sander used to fit bay res, the mind boggles.

Its to go in a TJ07 so I might be OK?

Have you looked at the Monsoon bay res? just another option!

I rate them highly, i've used one for my build, build quality is top notch and have plenty of colour options available! Plus good customer support.

The "Monsoon" looks to have a good spec build quality. For the faceplate, when it is fitted in the drive bays, is the liquid container visible from the front of the PC, ie, can you see into the reservoir? Or, is there a face plate that blanks it out and gives a black panel appearance res in the PC? I prefer the understated look rather than a tank of water on the front PC panel.

Just found a YouTube video of the Monsoon M2 with DDC pump, the guy had to dismantle the pump then part of the reservoir to install it and needed a molex pin remover to sort it all out. Surely that's not the case, don't it work out of the box? I realise the video I checked out was with a DDC pump, just wondering if its the same with the D5 pump?

Thx

bay res's tend to shake the case and make for a lot of noise, i would personaly go with a tube res and pump on foam unless you have a solid case and desk

Monsoon's mounting mechanism for the bay res is actually really good, and the screws don't go into the bay res itself. Its a bit complicated to explain via tex so i'll just link the youtube video about it:

Thats a different version of the bay res, look at the video above!

bay res's tend to shake the case

This is why I'm switching to a XSPC pump top for my D5 on my new build - the vibration noise is irritating. I've heard the Monsoon bay res/pump is much better though. Still changing to a pump and top combo personally though :)

yep i have a pump and tube, after having an XSPC shake my desk to bits:D

To be honest with the Monsoon Bay res I have hardly makes any noise, I can't hear/feel the vibrations! Especially when you have the d5 turned down on a low setting!

Does this Monsoon M2 Reservoir D5 actually come with a pump, its not clear from the description and lower down it says Ships fully assembled-just add your pump! Does that mean you have to buy a pump separately? If no pump then its £90 for a reservoir !!

The sound and vibration dampening system look quite good, if I knew this was definitely shipped with a pump I might get one.

No it doesn't come with a pump, its expensive for a bay res, but sometimes you just have to pay for the quality of the parts (I must sound like a rep for Monsoon, i can assure you i'm not :P) I've had the XSPC bay res and i've had 2 fail on me so i just want to make sure you make the right choice!

What pump would be OK for it, they don't all seem to be the same shape & size them D5 pumps, it gotta go in that shiny cylinder on the back. I might still get one if I can get a cheep enuff D5 pump

I see that the EK D5 pump is PWM and the XSPC is a variable setting based on the dial on top of the pump. How does the PWM function work if both a CPU and a GPU are in the loop, does it just test for the CPU temperature or is there some additional temperature testing based on the GPU?

Thx
