There is something about the penis that freaks people out beyond all reasonable proportion. I can imagine the rabble-rabble South Park style reaction now...

"oh so he slapped you in the face while you were unconscious? I see. Well, that isn't very nice but as long as you are ok th... OH MY GOD HE USED HIS PENIS HE MUST GO TO PRISON"

The penis is almost a side issue[sic], it's the clear considered intent to degrade and humiliate a person who had no means of protest - the fact it was seen fit not only to document the act, but to also distribute it for the 'lulz', is a saddening and frankly disturbing insight into the way some peoples minds work.

I really despair at society sometimes.

I wonder whether there would be such anger about it if the gender roles were reversed and it was actually a drunken laddish female rubbing her beaver on a sleeping fella's face. Equality and all that.

Stupid thing to do obviously but 9 months does seem harsh.

Spot on with that comment. However, I know a lot of people including myself who wouldn't tolerate that kind of behaviour to their siblings, taking matters in to their own hands. Nine months in prison would be considered too cushy an experience by way of comparison.

I discussed this with some female friends and they though the exact opposite so....?

I also discussed this with quite a few female friends who all agreed he got what he deserves however these were much older women who have never been to University so don't know the house party culture.
My anecdote was because these are young women who have just graduated and were not surprised by the incident but very surprised by the judgement.

Oh and I'm on the side of the punishment but I don't think he should be on the SO Register.

Well the women i discussed it with were mid twenties and had been to university and they thought the punishment was spot on.

I think the difficulty with not classing this as a sex act/sex assault is where do you draw the line when an exposed sexual organ is used? "hitting it on someone is ok but rubbing it on someone isnt" for example?

I don't see how anyone can be surprised by the sentence or that it's sexual assault.
Some students might be surprised that it was reported, but once reported no one should be surprised by the outcome.
And it very much depends on the type of unit student they are as to if this would be classed as the norm or not. With sports clubs generally being the worse for these sort of things, women teams no exception and on the other end of the scale you have students that hardly ever party.

There's a **** storm going on right now in some US town because several of the high school football team have been charged with sexual assault or something because of hazing rituals. What's the American term for "IT WAS ONLY A BIT OF BANTER!". Like jamming your finger up someone's balloon knot is just a bit of banter / makes you one of the lads.

So you would rather be knocked out by a drunk stranger and left with a broken nose on the street than being touched by a penis? Really?

Whilst you seemingly would prefer to have a video doing the rounds of someone shoving their genitals in your face whilst you were asleep rather than get punched.

Different strokes and all that.

A prison sentence for this? Stupid. Community service would be more appropriate.

So you would like to live in a world where any man can just get his penis out in a bar, at a party, in the street etc and wipe it on your mother's/daughter's/wife's/girlfriend's face and then also film it and show it to all and sundry with little to no recourse?

To let this guy go with nothing but a slap on the wrists sets a VERY alarming precedent.

Next time you are comatose I'll come round and tea bag your wide open mouth, record it, stick it on Facebook and tag all your employers and everyone else you know then yea?

Of course it won't be a problem because there are more serious issues going on in the world

I would be ****ed off. Perhaps want some form of action against you. But I wouldn't want you jailed for 9 months and put on the SO list and you live ****ed up over it.

I don't think many, if any, people are saying he shouldn't be punished. But what he got was OTT, that's my opinion.

She didn't deserve why happened to her, obviously. But taking the situation (drunken uni party) if my sister / daughter came home. Told me the story. Drunken uni party, i drunk so much I passed out, guy donked his penis on my head. I would probably laugh, then tell her she shouldn't be so stupid to get so drunk around strangers and that you hear of all the real horror stories, a quick donk on the head is nothing to what could have happened.

Live and learn for both parties.

Some very worrying posts in this thread.

An abhorrent act showing a complete disregard for another persons feelings, no one should be allowed to act like that, and evidently they are not.
No one, male or female should feel they have to stay awake /remain sober in order to avoid such a thing happening.

I feel the sentence is fair, some peoples moral compass is well and truly in the gutter.
He should be thankful he's not on the register and hopefully learn a lesson.

legislate against hurt feelings

I don't think so. All that would have done would be to have trivialized the event instead of sending out the appropriate response. :)

Oh no, we wouldn't want to trivialise a trivial thing.

back in my teens, i've seen this happen... at the time i did not think that the person doing this should go to jail, honestly thought that's a fair bit bigger than mine lol.

sentance is a joke and this world is a joke.

Maybe they could set up a penile colony, exile the guilty parties to Magaluf or such.

Your name leads me to believe that you do not hold an impartial view on the subject.

yeah that was a good party, we were all there for the same thing. umm it is different these days i guess as there is more humiliation regarding uploading tututnet but it's still way too harsh a sentence i think.
