Did Bach's wife write Bach's best hits?

In ye old days, I'm willing to take a wild stab and guess that women would not typically have the same schooling and opportunities as men. So yes, I would find it surprising if it had been a woman behind it, because it goes against the grain of society at that time.

Women of substance even in the 17th Century had very good educations, especially in things such as Music. Music was one of the subjects that was seen as appropriate for polite women to exercise. Upper class women in the 17th Century would typically have been highly educated in music, languages and literature.

As far as composition is concerned, I find it of no surprise that Bach and his wife Anna may have composed works together or that Anna contributed her own works to that of her husband. My wife helps me with my work, including contributing ideas, opinions and interpretations of her own...that's how marriages and partnerships work.

I'm not surprised in the slightest as these 'so called' revelations, only a bit surprised at the reaction to them.

I'd be more surprised if his dog had written it. But another human being 'may' have written it.......whoopee.....
