S Class opinions - petrol or diesel?

If I had paid for a 'luxury' class car and an LS pulled up I'd be pretty disappointed. Pretty much only Audi/Merc/BMW and above are suitable.

LMFAO

Do you have any idea what an LS is like on a motorway?

They don't rock around in maximum specced 600s. He has £15k to spend and it needs to be reasonable to run.

I thought the same re the original LS but the latest ones are incredible. A lot of high end clients don't want to roll up in a blingy 7 series. The S-class is the best all-rounder but as a business proposition the LS is far superior overall.

Yeah, I've had a look at the LS. My dad had the previous shape LS430 and it was bulletproof, had next to no problems with it.

It'd be the most reliable of the lot and I happen to think it's a very nice car, however it doesn't really matter what I think of it, it's what my prospective clients would think of it and whether they're willing to pay the same money to be shipped around in a Lexus as opposed to a Mercedes Benz.

My only gripe with the Lexus is the quality of the interior once you look past the seats, it's just typical Japanese switchgear which doesn't exactly scream luxury. I have a lot of the same buttons and touchscreen display in my 2006 Prius!

This is my gripe with lexus, and why i really struggle to like any of them :( Japanese switchgear is often pretty grim.

Would any of the things I mentioned earlier put you off buying a W221 S Class?

In a perfect world that's what I'd buy, I just don't know whether forums can make things look much worse than they actually are when it comes to these things.

Agreed.

When I worked at Nationwide HQ, the Chief Executive got chauffeured around in a LWB LS460 Hybrid. Looks very smart yet restrained. In the corporate market, they want comfort, ride quality, quietness, and a whiff of social responsibility, not the badge.

Top companies don't tend to go for bling bling. That's for your footballers and Z list celebs.

That's pretty funny.... :D

Are they really that unreliable?

My dad had an XJ with the 2.7 twin turbo diesel and it was faultless over the years/90k miles he had it. No major issues that I can remember and imo would make for a better 'executive limo' then the Merc/Audi.

But the OP is spending £16k so its quite funny when people suggest the current gen XJ. :o

I would seriously consider the Lexus option, but only if you can stretch to a current gen LS460 / LS600. The last gen LS430 looks really, really dated now and is more suited to up-market minicabbing.
I don't think most company execs would give a stuff about the switchgear. Most execs wouldn't even care what the car was as long as it looks the part and is quiet, comfortable, and driven smoothly.
