What is your favorite album?

Lame cop-out answer, but my music favorites change weekly. My most consistent albums are Rammstein - Liebe ist.., and Foo Fighters - Echoes Silence...

Was having this very discussion in work last week.
There's too many...
Pink Floyd,
Nirvana - unplugged is epic !
Pearl Jam,
The Who,
Rage,
Alanis Morisette,
Stone Roses,,,

Probably NIN-The Fragile for me...no particular stand out tracks (although they are all great) but listened to as a whole it is just superb.

Other than that Tool- Lateralus...it's a hard choice between that and AENEMA/The Bottom but the song Lateralus gives me chills every time.

Weather Systems by Anathema.

I can't pick really, but that one is a highlight of the last few years.
but I can never get bored of Guilt Machine - On this perfect day :)

Slightly off-topic but what would you guys say are your two most contrasting albums that you enjoy?

Just to show your diversity of music taste :D

Ed sheeran - X, lovely little lovey dovey album

Metallica: St anger, I want to rip your throat out and **** down your neck kind of album.

Er:

Machine Head: The Blackening

via

Tristania: Beyond the Veil

to

Lindsey Stirling: Lindsey Stirling

:p

I also have a random thing for Kelly Clarkson. Can't put my finger on why but I just do.

I don't really have a favourite album but I do have a favourite playlist. It basically involves 1997-2005 era Nightwish and Tarja Turunen's solo work.

Quo - by Status Quo 1974

1. Backwater
2. Just Take Me
3. Break the Rules
4. Drifting Away
5. Don't Think it Matters
6. Fine Fine Fine
7. Lonely Man
8. Slow Train

Hard to think of just one, so here's 4 (er... more like 7... sorry! :p)

Above & Beyond - Tri-State - such a mixed album, chilled out tunes, emotional tunes, dancy tunes, and so much going on in each track. Can listen to it over and over without getting bored!

Ayreon - the Human Equation - fantastic concept album, again with some huge variation of styles, and some amazing guest musicians.

Opeth - Ghost Reveries or Morningrise - both amazing albums which have some tracks that show Mikael's full range of vocals off.

Mind.In.A.Box - All 3 of their albums - I just love the gritty cyberpunk, dystopian feel to them and the story they tell of "Black" :D

A few already mentioned are high up on my list, Close To The Edge, Reign In Blood, Spirit of Eden, and The Wall really brings a pang of nostalgia from when you bought an album and felt you owned something really special.

But I love The Orb, he takes loops and samples and makes them sound absolutely gorgoeus (I could probably reel off the 'Vincent and the Doctor' speech here with the artists name substituted).

So UFOrb, which is my choice for his most consistently good album all the way through, takes the top spot.

Either one of the Bon Iver albums or either Takk... or Með suð í eyrum by Sigur Rós.

Like most people, there's never the 1 favourite, there's several.

The Wall pretty much dwarfs everything else in terms of a concept album. I've never seen the 'story' set out well, so I feel obliged to try.

I will take The Wall as your bet and raise you my favourite album, Joe's Garage by Frank Zappa...the conceptness and storyness of which trumps even the Wall (Which is my 2nd favourite album) ;)

The story being :-

Told by a character identified as the "Central Scrutinizer" narrating the story of Joe, an average adolescent male, who forms a garage rock band, has unsatisfying relationships with women, gives all of his money to a government assistant and insincere religion, explores sexual activities with appliances, and is imprisoned. After being released from prison into a dystopian society in which music itself has been criminalized, he lapses into insanity.

Easy one to pick, My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

Every track is just fantastic, the whole album in one go is even better and I can never get tired of it.

Captain Beefheart - Safe as Milk

That's a quality album! And the magic band are still pretty good when I saw them last christmas
